I haven’t actually watched Adena this season but I have enjoyed how they started poorly, never gave up and are now a very competitive team most every night. Good for them and props to coaching staff. Not easy to do nowadays.
They went to a couple of athletic sophomores in the starting lineup recently and it has made a huge difference in their play.
Rock Hill at Greenup County Ky
Rock Hill - 53
Greenup - 48
For the Hill Owen Hankins with 27, Doddridge with 13 and Adams with 11; Rock Hill with a 35-21 Rebound advantage with Smith grabbing 10 boards and Malone 8.
Portsmouth's sweep of Gallia Academy did not come easy, as the Trojans held only a 51-50 lead with 30 seconds to go. But some clutch FT's by DeAndre Berry and Daryionne Bryant, coupled with a GAHS turnover, allowed PHS to hang on for a 54-50 win. PHS is now 5-7 overall in the OVC, recording their first home conference win (1-4 at home in OVC). Defensively, Portsmouth did a very credible job vs. Isaac Clary and Zane Loveday, holding them to 33 points combined. PHS was at a major size disadvantage, with Kenny Sanderlin being the tallest starter at 6-1. Sanderlin had another good game for the Trojans with 21 points. Donovan Carr added 10.
The Trojans (9-9 overall) now need 1 win either over Ironton or Coal Grove, both at home, to record a 10th win for the 85th time in school history. It would also clinch a 10-10 regular season which would end a streak of 3 straight losing seasons.
Coach Eugene Collins recorded the 190th win in his 13 year PHS career (190-113). Over his tenure, the Trojans have an average record (rounded up) of 15-9. 7 of those seasons have seen PHS win at least 16 games, with 4 seasons of 19, 20, 21, and 24.
