Do we know who the officiating crew will be ? whoever it is I hope the magnitude of the game, the status ( 2 of the best teams in the SE district no matter the division) of the teams on the court, warrant this one to be called as would be in a district/regional game - we all know that we have some outstanding officiating crews in Southern & Southeast Ohio - THIS game should have one of them ... set the tone early so both teams can adjust, then be consistent for 4 quarters ... I'm psyched! Southern Ohio should be too! AND IT'S ONLY ROUND #1 !!

... I could take my '75 VW bus out of hibernation for the Winter ... park it between South Webster & Minford for the rest of the regular season ... just taking in the menu of games remaining on either teams schedule - I could watch some of the best basketball in all of the SE district...

Minford might have the best 2 players in this game(debatable). But after that it's all Jeeps with the exception of Shoemaker being maybe the 5th or 6th. If you take away the best 2 players on each team then SW will win 9/10 times. There isn't any fall off from our 3rd guy to our 7th. But that's not the case, so there is some work to be done if they wanna win on Friday. Too close to call, and there's also the potential of one team having a bad night and getting destroyed. They split last year and I think they'll do the same this year

No question, either team can win this one although I see Minford with the distinct advantage. Regarding the comment about the "best 2 players in the Southeast" the question is this: If not Kayser and Montgomery, who else in the district is better? Not saying nobody else can be considered in the conversation, but who would some of those players be?

I’m sure others who follow SE Ohio ball can provide names of players who are as good or nearly as good as Montgomery and Kayser. I know of a couple who are relatively close but I’m not who else besides the Minford boys have college scholarships locked up at this point. Maybe someone else has info.

From a pure talent perspective, Eli Roberts is in the conversation as the best player in SE Ohio with Kayser and Montgomery. 6'8" with his shot and handle doesn't come around very often in SE Ohio. Not saying Roberts is better than the other 2, but is definitely in the conversation with them. Go watch his first half against Burg from last week and tell me otherwise.

As for his college prospects, had heard some D2 schools are on him, but somebody in the know at Webster will have to confirm.

It's still amazing to me that two small towns like Minford and South Webster, less than 10 miles apart, produced 3 players of their caliber, and all in the same age group.*

If Robert’s had the work ethic and attitude of the others in discussion, this wouldn’t be a discussion. Unfortunately for Webster that’s not the case and is the main reason I’ll pick the Falcons to win this game. Let’s not forget only a few short months ago he was “kicked off the team for good” and we see how long that lasted. About as long as everyone presumed it would.

What Webster has going for them tho is Bernard, Shupert, McClintic and Stephens play very very hard and bring the energy to mostly make up for the odd man out. Will be a great game both times and I’m looking forward to it.

Yep…Burg also had Drew Spradlin who went D1 at Elon. So those 2006 games between Webster/Burg had 4 D1 players on the floor.

And Cam Thoroughman (West Virginia) was playing for Clay during that time as well. Crazy talent in Scioto County that year!*

ER has been hustling his tail off this season. I’ve been really impressed with his come back this season and any real fan agrees. The whole work ethic thing doesn’t apply anymore. Last night at west he got the steal at mid court, got the easy layup, ran straight back down the court and lebronned someone from behind within 12 seconds.

And yes we are we lucky we have 7 guys that get after it for 32 minutes.

Jeeps by 8. Eli is one of the best offensive player around here. Nobody his height can shoot as well as he can from deep and off the dribble. His passing is also underrated. He wants to win bad this season and he has. He has worked to get here and the attitude problem is better. He shows up when they need him and will continue to do so. Go Jeeps

yep, between the Fairland game Saturday the 8th , EB arrives on Tuesday the 11th, before a very much improved Valley team on Friday the 14th before finishing off the week on Saturday the 15th vs Waverly - all good games before the Minford Part Deux rematch on the 18th ... good stuff !!!

All the talks about offers… I know he had some D1 offers like Marshall, Morehead, Indiana State… and some more, but I don’t know if those remain. To me, Robert’s is the best player in the SOC 3. If Robert’s has his 25, and Shupert and Barnard add 15 a piece, then the Jeeps will be fine. What can’t happen is the Jeeps let Bennett and Miles have 20 each. If the Jeeps can hold one of them under 20 then it won’t be a problem. I think the Jeep have this one on the road.

I've never seen any evidence that any D-1 offers were real. Montgomery and Kayser have been offered and committed to elite D-2 programs who are better than 1/3 of D-1 teams in the country. Roberts is playing well now and he could be the absolute difference-maker in this game. We'll see. That's why we play the games.
