Re: WEST BASKETBALL
after hearing some very interesting news i look for the girls team to have a new coach also and you can take one of these coachs off your list of discussion
Re: WEST BASKETBALL
Not sure how much Kitchen is interested in coaching, I mean, if it is a passion of his or not, from watching him it seems to me it is....anyway, don't understand why he is making demands first and not after he gets the job, kind of sounds like to me he is finding ways to talk himself out of it...cannot blame him for wanting certain things set up first but that is hard to do, reminds me of the football dilemma in Ironton for Lutz's nephew....wouldn't take the job unless certain coaches were here or there etc etc etc...they could not meet his demands, and it seemed the kid did not really want the job that bad,so he took offense to it and refused it....my feeling then and now is, if you really want the job, take it, then start working on those kinds of problems...AFTER you are designated head coach. Too bad for West if he doen't take the job, sad for the kids and community. Being a head coach of a main sport in a high school program has alot of rewards and alot of frustrations too, I miss it at times.
Re: WEST BASKETBALL
Jumper, did not mean to make Kitchen out to be like that, sorry....I just wish they would cooperate together and find some common ground....guess you are right, the West administration may not have the passion for basketball maybe. Don't know, just hate the situation though.

Re: WEST BASKETBALL
That is too bad for West. What are they thinking? Certainly wish Kitchen would take the job. It is his to turn down from what I understand. When you take over a defunct program, you don't start out with much. He could turn it around, the Hurd guy cannot. Hurd is NOT the only applicant though, someone told me there are at least 3 applicants.
Re: WEST BASKETBALL
The junior high at West has 2 coaches for both girls and boys. Don't really understand the problem....like I said before and cannot say strongly enough...the West basketball program is defunct for the most part....you have to take the job FIRST and once you are the head coach, you can hand pick coaches and move them around at your discretion....that is a fact.....and the program will start a slow uphill swing as soon as someone like Kitchen or Kitchen himself steps in....the teaching job is a given then. I have heard they actually do not have one that fits yet but would be certain to hire Kitchen for the first available one..one just has to be humble and trust this situation...there are no perfect basketball coaching jobs out there but some are way more lucrative than West....I just venture to say West is in NEED of someone with Kitchen's experience more than others....and the appreciation of him would come step by step, administration probably doesn't know the difference in a real program as they have never had one...someone needs to show them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jumper, if you know Kitchen and have spoken to him, BEG him to come to West!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They should have a good group of kids to work with next year, the type of kids that would thrive under a REAL coach.
EVERY argument you have made for Kitchen not taking it on here is trivial at best (with the exception of teaching) because any of these things can be resolved once he is involved with the program on a year round basis. Please look at it from that angle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: WEST BASKETBALL
How were their younger programs last year? (7th, 8th and Junior Varsity.) Just curious.

Re: WEST BASKETBALL
I know for a fact there were two coaches for 7th and 8th grade boys and girls..Hurd and I think Davis or something like that for boys and Bricker and another woman for girls....one of the girls' teams finished the season undefeated, not sure if it was 7th or 8th. Both boys and girls have some very talented kids in those grades though. I have no idea if both of those coaches were considered paid or not, but from talking with others, there were always 2 coaches in every game and practice...maybe one volunteered?but both sets of coaches worked hard certainly.
Re: WEST BASKETBALL
Great news jumper!!!!!!!!!!! Hope he sets up some summer camps for all age kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
