Very good points army and dshanton.
Chilli this year was a true team. Gary did a great job of keeping egos in check and getting them to play together as a team. They will be very good again this year.
We wish Vinnie the best of luck and hopefully the focus will be on him - and only him - over the next several years.

Army,

Your right about the parent factor now. How every parent thinks that their kid will be a "D1" player and thank they are a superstar in the making some parents need to go to some bigs B-Ball camps and throw their kid out there and see what he can actually due out againist bigger talent so they will wake up and see the difference.

tigernation...thank you for the sentiments. not everybody could understand with their style how they were such a close knit unit and how regardless of how it looked, everyone was playing their role. Championships are proof in the pudding! here's hoping to seeing Greenfield continue being a contender for district and regional titles and a big test for anyone hoping to get there.

tigernation,

Thanks! Dshanton3 is so correct in his last post and about Rick. A true mentor and one of the last in his class of coaching. Coach K has kept this team at Chillicothe focused on playing as a Team. I have been watching these kids at Chilli play for a while now, and the one key ingredient Gary brought with him from Zane Trace was, Team! One for all and all for one. There ceased the indivdual concept in our CAV Program. And, if they get out of hand, Gary steps on it before it becomes a distraction. I have seen these kids here at Chilli so focused and have bought into Coach K's concept that he teaches, there is no other way. That's why, if we did get a high profile transfer in here at Chillicothe from lets say a local SVC school, and they did not buy into Gary's program, they wouldn't last long at all. No individuals at Chilli. It's about everybody making a connection and helping the cause to build a program of winners.

Rick will have your Tigers ready this up-coming season, you can bank on that one.

Good Luck to your Greenfield McClain Tigers this season in the SCOL and Tournament Play.

took the time to read all these posts- shame on all of you who think it is appropriate to discuss anything but basketball skills . Talking about the kids family and whether they should of moved? Please what parent is gonna not chose to head up out of Greenfield Ohio and benefit their kid at the same time. Know the family, undeserving of this. All former athletes, know what they are doing and talking about. Like it or not he was recruited because of his AAU games where he was played where a D1 6'9 3 point threat plays - behind the line. Take that to small town SCOL and you have a post player. If you know anything you know that. You also know that the other Greenfield standout was a point guard, not a 2 or 3 as Zollo you cant compare skills on that. And Zollo looked awful mature in all ways on ESPN when they interviewed him last sunday. Hats off to him and his entire family, couldnt be more happier for them, good things happen to good folks.

"Best player to ever play at the Convo"

AWESOME....not any of the great players of the MAC that went on to play in the NBA.....but a kid from Greenfield.

OK

Somewhere in Kentucky, he is ranked in the top 50 for his grade in the nation and top ten in the state of Kentucky regardless of grade level. He will take his knocks but he has plenty of time to do it. If he sits the bench for Kentucky for four years ( which I dont think he will) He still has done more than about 98% of athletes out of highland county. The Greenfield faithful should be proud instead of resentful that he doesnt play for them anymore. He is a good kid, KID- he is only fifteen.

dante was definitely not treated the same as the other players, he had a lot more leeway to do what he wanted, especially on offense and talking to officials.

Dshanton3 wrote:tigernation...and thats why we all respect Rick so much. b/c thats the way it should be. there is a difference in a kid having a longer leash because he's one of your best players and treating that kid different than every1 else when it comes to coaching and discipline.

I am not that close to this situation so I will only comment in general terms. The coach I respect the most on this subject only allows more leash or consideration AFTER that player has earned it. A senior with a history of toeing the line will get a longer leash because they earned it over time. A young phenom will not. That is the way it should be also. My two cents on Greenfield is this, winning program that just produced a D1 player who got some playing time this past season. Why would you want to go somewhere else? The grass is not greener as they say.

Greenfield will be decent this year, but IMO they will struggle w/o Vinnie. They have no other big post players. They do have some good guards, esp. Lucas Polly, one of the best ball handlers I have watched.

just add him to the line of great PG's then. It seems that McClain always has a good handling PG. Is he as tough on the ball as Michael Howard was?

IMO, Howard is not even close to being as good as Polly. Howard could not shoot the ball very good, Polly can run the point and score at will. He averaged about 18 a game last year if I recall.
