It has everything to do with the coach liking them. The more high scores they get from coaches, the more games they get. It also has to do with who their chapter members vote for. Usually the most popular members get the votes. That is why you see playoff games, even finals, where you think how did this guy get this game.

Did you not watch the State Finals on STO? They explained it on there how the officials are elected to officiate the State Championships and it was not eve close to what you were saying. One guy has his hands in it and it is the Commissioner of officials or whatever they call him. He has the say on who officiates the championships and who don't.
Don't believe everything you see on TV. That may be the case in the future, but it was not this past season, or in previous seasons. I am close friends with two officials who did state finals games this past season. Neither of them was chosen by any commissioner. The future plan is for whole crews to have the first round, or maybe two of playoff games. There will be evaluators sent to the games to rate the officials. Then the individual officials with the highest evaluations will move on to the next level and the crews will be made up of those ones. But this past season both the guys I know were awarded 5 games before the playoffs even started. Next time pay closer attention to what you are watching, or listening to.

I am not sure exactly what happened with the scheduling but I believe that someone needs to look into it and see that it doesn't happen again in the future. Secondly, the loss of Haner during the first half of the game dramatically changed the momentum of the game. It is hard to play a team as strong as Trimble when a vital link of the team is missing. Hope that Haner is up and ready to play again this upcoming week. Having said this, I want to make sure to say that Trimble deserved this win - they played hard and in the end they are the team that wanted this win the most. Are they a better team than SG? NO - I still think that SG is the stronger of the two teams and had the factors mentioned about not been in place then SG would have put the points on the board and walked away with the win.

Not having a game in two weeks at that point in the season just plain sucks. I agree that the loss of Haner hampered the course of the first half. I don't however agree that SG is the stronger team - if anything BOTH teams at FULL HEALTH - one great match up.

Well since you said that they were great. Cause we all know that no one gets to do playoff games or all star games unless they are great officials. Has nothing to do with coaches who like them getting the AD to vote for them.
State Finals games have nothing to do with what coach or whatever AD likes them. The OHSAA Officiating Officer reviews them and picks them. I am sure the North South game does not have slouches as referees either. You need to think before you post.
MM -
As much as I hate to agree with Heavy D (lol), he is right that many times officials get games on the "like" factor. I have seen it many times myself over the years in the TVC. And if was truly the OHSAA review and picking, then they need to look at their own self. At best, it may be a mix of both your opinions.

I am not trying to stir anything up. Nor am I a school AD on here trying to justify the hiring of sub-par officials. Not an AD on here on the schools dime either. I will tell you this though. When an official spends most of his time during the game looking back at the players and coaches on the sidelines telling them to get back and threatening to toss people out, instead of paying attention to what is going on out on the playing field he is not very good, regardless of his playoff experience. That is just one thing out of many but I won't continue on the basketball forum.
I know for a fact Gallia Co. Schools started Christmas break today. Obviously he is not "on the schools dime". Guess you'll have to look to stir somewhere else. Some districts might allow computers to access this site. GCLS do not.

Did they finally totally block this site from the schools? I know people that could get on it last year at one of the gcls and doubt that it changed this year but maybe they are changing things up now with these new schools, idk

One thing that I am excited about is that SG does not lose a single starter from this year's team. Trimble loses 3 I think. The bottom line is that SG did have trouble with Trimble's size and that was the difference in the game. SG went on that run that cut the lead to 5 in the 4th but then got impatient and threw up some quick 3's that did not go in. I really enjoy watching this team however. Looking forward to the game tomorrow night's game and then the 23rd over at Wahama.

I also want to give a BIG THUMBS UP to SG's student section that was loud and rowdy without being vulgar and obnoxious like some. On a crowd note I was surprised at how few Trimble fans made the trip.

Trimble will lose 3. When SG plays Trimble @ Trimble, you will see a lot of fans there. I liked the spirit of the student section as well. It is a true benefit to the home team to have the visitors face them 2nd half. Luckily it didn't affect Trimble's play. It should be a good game next time.

You get on me for criticizing officials and then you call them goons. You can believe what you want, but the guys who were in the state finals knew they had those games by week 8 of the regular season. So maybe your commissioner saw every official in the state of Ohio before week 8 and then hand picked the ones he wanted to do the finals.

I didn't get on you for anything. You just stated something that I disagreed with. I am done arguing with you on the basketball forum about football officials. I know what I seen on TV and I know what the guy said. I don't think you are understanding me or how they guy said they were elected. There is a vote but then they are hand picked after voting. I think he would be sitting there all year watching video of thousands of officials. So, let's just agree to disagree.

RebelCat - That is one nasty drive from Glouster to Mercerville. Don't be surprised if only that many travel to Glouster from Mercerville depending on weather.

You could be correct on fans from sg travelling to glouster. One difference is that sg fans are used to long drives. We'll see
