Why are we starting so late when other school have already plated 2-4 games?

... I posted on another thread that by the time Logan plays Lancaster on Dec 10th, the Gales will have played 3 or 4 games ... BIG advantage for Lancaster having worked out the cobwebs, the first game nerves, will have made adjustments, seen film for 3 or 4 games to work on areas needing addressed ... going to be tough for Logan coming out of the blocks ... it is what it is - looking forward to get my first look at the Purple with 6-8 Kevin Fisher wearing the purple & white ...

They have started 'late' the past few years. Possibly because they wanted extra time when Logan was in the football playoffs? Just a guess.

The only thing I can come up with is they are in a couple of tournaments?

... moonshine - I'm not sure who the five starters are this season - obviously Fisher, Gabe Smith, Chance Cox, Lane Little (although he is nursing an injured foot) ... the fifth starter ??? ... I will see for myself next Tuesday night as the Chiefs take on Lancaster ... the LDN hasn't come out with their first game team rundown yet (probably Monday or maybe even as late as Tuesday prior to the opening game for the Chiefs), they usually don't have any SEOAL team information in the LDN other than scores/records of teams Logan plays ... LD doesn't have game recaps/articles during the season for any area teams other than the Chiefs - the high school hoops junky that I am - I would like to get more info in the paper from adjacent school districts - Logan Elm, SEOAL teams, Nelsonville York, Berne Union ...

Thanks for the link to the LD boys hoops profile ! Logan has some good size coming up on the JV's haven't been able to say that for awhile ... I want to see the freshmen man child 6-5 Kory Henthorne - the kid is a MASSIVE 6-5, chiseled beast of a kid and is getting bigger !!! Henthorne WILL see varsity action this year - Kory was injured with a broken collarbone during football season or he would have made a major impact on the gridiron as well ... I'm also psyched to see Isaiah Smith a 6-3 PG on the JV squad - have heard many good things about his ball handling & size ... hope these youngsters will push the varsity kids this season, and they get the opportunity to get some varsity experience - size wise it looks like they will be assets to the both JV AND varsity ... I'm thinking out loud here but visualize a Logan Varsity of 6-8 Kevin Fisher/6-4 Gabe Smith/6-5 Kory Henthorne/6-3 Evan DeLong/6-3 Isaiah Smith add to the mix the perimeter people alongside Smith - Chance Cox at 6-0/Joey Cottrill 5-9/Nick Kost 5-8 hmmmmmm both inside/outside game ... good ball handlers ... size REAL size in the paint ... LOTS OF POTENTIAL right there for the Purple & White ... good mix of youngsters and upperclassmen ...

Go Chiefs!

Exciting hoops season. Told my friends in Zanesville when we there for football that this was a weird year - Zanesville was looking for a state title in football and Logan was actually looking forward to basketball season.

Haven't seen this kind of size for the purple and white for a LONG time. And I don't know the last time the Chiefs had a legit 6-8 big man on the inside. Definitely pre-dates old LoganLocos.

My man Cole likes to think he was a 'legit big man' when he made up 1/4 of the Rat Pack... lol

Which of course now days, he would be correct.

Our man Cole was about a generous 6'2 if I recall....

Jason Dicken (class of '03) was a good post player at about 6'5 (maybe pushed 6'6) and Alex Wallace (class of '08) was about 6'8 but wasn't a dominant basketball player.

Even with the Conrads, when Logan had a lot of nice size, Joey Conrad (6'4) and Jim Bennett (6'3) were the post players while Johnny Conrad (6'3) and Matt Taulbee (6'2-6'3) were on the wings. No 6'8 guys there either.

Steve Dalton might have been the last big man in the middle for the chiefs with good basketball skills. If i remember he was 6' 7" and went to play for Marietta College. I heard he had hurt his back some how and didn't play too much. Steve was also a baseball pitcher for the Chiefs.

Knew Steve. He was a string bean, tall and skinny. Played '59-61. And there were 2 other 6'8 big men in the SEOAL at the time -- Jackson & Athens . Steve still lives in Logan I believe. Used to keep a pontoon boat at Lake Logan ( and offers me use of it when I'm in town) . Steve needed to be on a strong weight program to build himself up. But he could score and play inside.

In those days i think the coach thought working with weights would bulk you up and slow you down. Couldn't get that long reach with those wing built up.LOL

I grew up next door to Mark Shaw's parents. If I have my info correct, he was 6'8 + and played at LHS in the early '70s? Coached Logan for a couple of seasons (79-81) and then ended up in Columbus. He had a couple of boys who went to DeSales. One played against Logan in football during the '03 season.

The '85-'86 team, probably the best in LHS history, lacked the big man on the block despite having a ton of skill in Keith Myers, Kerry York, and DJ Conrad.

1989/1990 Logan had a terrific big man in Jim Redd. Absolutely dominated the paint in the SEOAL. But not only was he a great player, I have often been told he was a great guy by those who played and coached against him. Even though Logan was our huge rival at Athens, and often times games became very heated, I know coach Gibson (Gibby) has gone out of his way to praise Redd for his excellent sportsmanship during those games back in the day.

Worked with Steve at Goodyear. He had a house out at Lake Logan. Docked his pontoon right down from it. Very good hearted generous person. I know all those Dalton's, Most of them are tall like that.

Jim was just inducted into the LHS Athletic Hall of Fame this past fall. Great football and basketball player at LHS, went on to play at the University of Indianapolis (football and track). He's now an officer with the Indianapolis Fire Department. He was absolutely outstanding at the Hall of Fame dinner, giving a great speech.

BTW, Locos , I coached Mark Shaw when I was in Logan. I had one of the Jr. High teams and he was a pitcher for me in baseball. However , I don't think he was bigger than 6'5. And talk of DeSales, I also coached Chuck Kemper in football who went on after playing for O.U. to be the Head basketball coach at Wehrle ( now closed) from the old Central Catholic League. He was real successful in the CCL stomping DeSales, Watterson, Ready, Hartley and St.Chuck's.

Speaking of the Dalton's, Ed was an ALL -SEOAL TE who went on to become a touring golf Pro. Gary played basketball ( All SEOAL) at Logan & went to Eastern K3ntucky U. ( while I was at Morehead St.) and then taught in Columbus area. Lost track of all of them.
