Re: WEST BASKETBALL
Why dont they just find someone to volunteer to hold the open gyms and weightliftings?
Re: WEST BASKETBALL
There is weightlifting after school the kids can go to. As stated before, none of those names mentioned above are even in a league "below" Norm Persin and the like....except Kitchen. If he did apply, then they will do everyone a huge favor in hiring him...then, some of the other guys could get some experience coaching middle school, biddy league etc and under the influence of Kitchen's guidance, things could get on the right track from the bottom up at West. Next year there should be a lot of seniors playing that did not play last year. It should be a decent year ONLY with a solid coach such as Kitchen.

Re: WEST BASKETBALL
if the only names are kitchen, phillips, hurd
i would like the west side boys get together and get our basketball on track
i played for coach phillips for three years and he was the best not only did he teach me alot about the game he was always there to help me with other things and he is still there for me i believe he has 10 years experience ( 5 as the jr high coach-1 as the jv coach- 4 as a varsity head coach)
hurd has been the jr high coach the last several years plus he has had the younger kids playing alot of summer ball
phillips and hurd already has a working relationship with the pee wee
phillips and hurd alredy knows the kids, parents, community members and the school
phillips and hurd are young and would be in it for the long run
phillips and hurd are very passionate about the game, kids and school
i hope phillips and hurd get there heads together and gets this done it would be and exciting brand of basketball on the west side

Re: WEST BASKETBALL
Sorry General, could not agree with you less...Hurd has absolutely NO experience at varsity, it would be a worse problem than before, and the kids will not show much respect for him, they will run over him. He also has a major problem of allegiance to the school's programs as a whole. Phillips would also get completely run over by this group of kids....ask the girls that have played for him...maybe he DOES know some basketball but Kitchen has so much more experience than both those candidates put together it is crazy. Kitchen can control that team and he fits that position perfectly. What a slap in the face to Kitchen if they don't hand it to him easily above the others...after all, he stepped into a mess and the kids had a positive experience come out of it. Everyone appreciates him for that and he knows that group of boys now better than either of the others as a result. He also wants to teach at West when an opening comes up which is all the more reason to hire him, the kids need coaches who teach, like it used to be. Jumper, why the negativity? Cool off, I can not imagine a scenario where they would skip over all these things and give the job to a candidate that has less experience, is not proven at a varsity level, and is not wanting to teach in the system. Maybe Phillips could be an assistant? Sorry General, you could not make a good argument to me based on your reasoning which is faulty at best...just my humble opinion. Good Luck Coach Kitchen, I sure hope he gets the job.

Re: WEST BASKETBALL
well i would bet any amount of money that coach phillips is more up to date about basketball than kitchen is-- and as far as the boys running over coach phillips it wont happen--he lays the rules you obey you play you dont dont let the door hit you in the behind--my opinion if the kids want to play they will grow up and act like adults not little children-- why is the reason kitchen hasnt had a coaching job in awhile if the rumors i hear its not looking good for him

Re: WEST BASKETBALL
I agree with Jumper and support the hiring of Kitchen completely. No one else that you have mentioned here has a resume that would come close to his. There are plenty of excellent coaches in the SOC and teams need coaches to match that kind of experience. To hire someone with no boys varsity experience over someone with 22 years is ridiculous, no other way to put it, especially after doing what he did last year to help out. Kitchen has no reason for not coaching the last few years other than he wanted to retire and work with horses. Now he apparently misses it and West deserves someone with that kind of knowlegde of the sport....hope West grabs him up!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kitchen is young and will DEVELOP a program over a period of years if you let him. Great move by West if they hire him.
Re: WEST BASKETBALL
General, if it were not for the kids in the program, I would wish you could have your way and then when the program falls deeper than when Gibson quit, we can all say, we told you so! I am with Cameron, get to winning West!!!! You have the guy to get you there, take advantage!!!!!!!!!
