How in the world do you come up with 40-50 HS and Jr High basketball teams in Washington County?SoccerDad wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 3:17 pmBecause I don't think that enforcement plan is practical. There's 40 or 50 HS and JR High basketball teams in a county like Washington County, and there's no way that Sheriff's department can cover so many games — add in the additional logistics of not only being around, but gathering witness statements and maybe reviewing security footage... nah, we don't need the law involved if there's no violence or threats.JeepNation26 wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 3:02 pm I don't think the athletic directors should get hit with a fine, they can't help that they have a few fans who are jackasses. Every team has at least one or two. If you really want it to stop just have the deputy sheriffs across the state step up and start charging them with disorderly conduct a minor misdemeanor and a fine and then let both athletic directors issue a 1 year ban from all athletic events, if it happens a 2nd time then a lifetime ban to the jackasses. Ejected coaches have to pay a $100.00 fine and complete the NFHS “Teaching and Modeling Behavior” course within 30 days of the ejection. Why shouldn't an unruly fan have to pay the price?
The athletic directors are the ones that are especially positioned to manage the situation. They schedule the games, they assign the site administrators, they have contact with the referees and referee assignors, they can manage and enforce bans on repeat offenders that suit their community — they also get paid to administer the athletic events. Most of this can be cleaned up by pro-active site administrators, but there's little incentive for site admins to get involved until it's too late.

I’d bet lots of these officials conceal carry. Some day an idiot will FAFOTrueFan wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 3:02 pm Unioto had a fan ejected from the 6th grade girls game on Sunday. Said something to the effect of "that is bull****", to which the ref said, "that's enough". The fan proceeded to yell at the ref so he tossed him. That made it worse to where the fan eventually stated "I'll F*** you up*, "meet me outside", to which the ref responded with "yeah, yeah, that's what they all say; you won't be there"!
Said fan was outside after the game, but did end up leaving before the official came out.

Warren typically has as many as 10 or 11: Boys Varsity, Boys JV, Boys Freshmen, Girls Varsity, Girls JV, Boys 8th Grade (x2), Boys 7th Grade (x2), Girls 8th Grade, Girls 7th Grade
Marietta nearly as many, though they stopped doing four Jr High boys teams, so more like 8 or 9
Belpre has Boys Varsity, Boys JV, Girls Varsity, Boys 8th, Boys 7th, Girls Jr High, so 6ish
Waterford will have 6ish
Fort Frye will have 6ish
Frontier will have 5ish
add 'em up
Re: Crowd Conduct
I was at this game and vividly remember it. The Alexander head coach got tossed. He ran out nearly to mid-court chasing the officials. A fight broke out in the seats from an opposing fan sneaking over to the other side (I think they were both students of their respective schools but I could be mistaken). This was an outstanding basketball game with top notch tournament atmosphere. Both Adena and Alexander had good teams this particular season. Unfortunately, a steaming mad coach and a few bad apples in the bleachers made this game even more memorable than it should have been....HMilliken02 wrote: Sun Feb 16, 2025 1:15 am As a broadcaster this season I have not seen any fights or anything extreme. However, we have had a couple fans thrown out of the gym for remarks towards the officials.
However a few years ago, at Jackson I worked PA for a neutral site tournament game between Adena and Alexander where a fight broke out and the AD almost threw everybody out of the gym.

Saw two thing tonight while watching the VC Hillsboro game that not sure I've seen before. Class act by a ref to tie his shoe to get the game stopped so VC could sub out their 5 players on the floor, including a senior playing his last game, so he could take a bow one last time. Class act by the ref. Then the exact opposite happened. A player that was subbed in for VC with maybe a minute left and the game out of reach two hand shoved a Hillsboro player coming down the floor twice for no reason. Ruined the moment. For what? Maybe more to the story...
Re: Crowd Conduct
What does this have to do with crowd conduct? Players on the floor losing their cool is a learning moment for sure. Unacceptable conduct for a VC player and I guarantee they will learn from it. I’m not sure I can even remember the last time a Viking was tossed from a game and I’ve been watching for a long time.MadeInRossCounty wrote: Thu Feb 20, 2025 8:22 pm Saw two thing tonight while watching the VC Hillsboro game that not sure I've seen before. Hats off to the Hillsboro student section. For this to happen right in front of them, they did great job not getting involved or escalating it.Dundas wrote: Thu Feb 20, 2025 8:52 pmWhat does this have to do with crowd conduct? Waverly has same woman yell every game and it's getting old. Everyone in stand knows without having to even look. She has been tossed even and somehow our administration never says a word to her.
I’ve been to a few games. It’s crazy. Even the coaches wife loses it. I feel for the kids. That has to be embarrassing.
