The Ohio/Hocking happening twice in one season reminds me of junior high scheduling. I'll give the edge to the home team in both instances.

Rockets win on the road at Trimble 44-43
Jeff Matteson had a game-high 14 points and Andy Derrow finished with seven, including 1-for-2 free throws with three-seconds remaining to give Wellston a 44-43 win over Trimble on Tuesday night.

With the scored tied at 43-43, the Tomcats turned the ball over on an inbounds pass that was stolen by Derrow, who was fouled, sending him to the free throw line for the double-bonus.

After a Trimble time out, Derrow missed his first free throw and the Tomcats called their final time out of the game in an attempt to ice the shooter.

However, Derrow made good on his second shot, putting the Rockets ahead by one at 44-43 and Trimble was unable to score on its final attempt as time expired.

"I'm really proud of our kids," said Wellston head coach Jim Derrow. "We were down four or five points in the third quarter and we battled back."

Wellston (3-6) trailed by five points in the third quarter but battled back and trailed by only one at 30-29.

The contest went back-and-fourth throughout, but Tyler King, who was perfect from the free throw line (4-for-4) made a pair of attempts late in the contest to even the score at 43-all.

Trimble, paced by Issac Stanley's team-high 11 points, led throughout the second half. The Tomcats outscored Wellston 19-17 in the middle two quarters and the two teams were even at 18-18 at halftime.

Matteson got the Rockets off to a fast start, as he scored eight of his game-high 14 points in the first quarter to lead the Rockets to a 12-11 advantage after the first eight minutes.

Slone Cales, scored four of his 10-points in the second quarter, while Cody Wilkett chipped in with six for the game and Aaron Jackson had Wellston's only three-pointer of the game.

The Rockets will host Meigs in a Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division contest on Friday at Wellston High School.
