The SOC champion, Wheelersburg Pirates are 18-2 on the year. To be 100% honest, many people did not give this team much of a chance this year coming off two straight final four appearances. Yes, the Burg lost a great deal of talent but the boys of 07-08 have stepped up and played some pretty solid baseketball this season. The defense has been very good in almost every single game and sometimes outstanding. The offense has struggled at times during the year but the boys have made the baskets when it was needed the most. Coach Barrick will have the Pirates ready to play come Friday night. The ONLY game we are focused on is Friday because we cannot afford to look past anyone no matter the record or league. Good luck men!

Ill be rooting for Belpre in this one, however I dont think they will pull it off. If the Eagles can play like they are capable they could keep it close, but I look for the burg to win by 15+. Good Luck Belpre Reresent the TVC Ohio.

Since the late 1800's if I am not mistaken.

Wheelersburg is a well coached team and they don't beat themselves, you have to go out and out execute them to win.

Belpre will have to bring their "A" game to beat the Pirates and when things don't go well in the game, you always have those times in a game, keep working together.

Best of luck to both teams.

LETS GO EAGLES!!!

As far as I can remember Belpre's owns a modest 2 game win streak over the Pirates. 2001 and 2006 is this correct. Somebody help me out. Come on boys, there have been some great Belpre - Wheelersburg games in the past. We are very capable of making this a game.

Actually we have played three times in this time span. Between Belpre's wins in 2001 and 2006, the Pirates defeated Belpre in the 2003 Sectional Finals at Rio Grande.

I look for a hard fought contest with the Pirates pulling away in the last 10-12 minutes. Coach Barrick and the rest of the staff will have the players focused and their defense will wear down a tough Belpre team in the end.

^^^^Oh and just so you know for this week, most people tend to ignore Mad Dogg unless we want to tease someone^^^^

Actually, Wheelersburg and Belpre has only played 3 times since 1958-59. But my complete records only go back for 50 years so I don't know about all the games before then.

The way the old OHSAA system was with county tournaments, we would have had to go pretty far in the tournament to meet in those early days. 1945 and 1946 tournaments, Wheelersburg made it to the regionals/elite eight. I think that Belpre might have been one of the teams that they defeated in those tournament runs one of those years. I will have to see about looking it up tonight.

But there is a decent chance that these two teams have met only 3-6 times in their 100+ year history.

Very interesting but didn't Belpre play Wheelersburg in 1997 during their run to their 2nd of 3 State appearances

Wheelersburg has had four state appearance but not in 1997.

In 1997 tournament Wheelersburg played:

Sectional:
Feb 19, Wheelersburg 76 Federal Hocking 63
Feb 22, Wheelersburg 57 Nelsonville-York 55
District:
?? , Wheelersburg 60 Southeastern 52
March 5, Chesapeake 65 Wheelersburg 59

Wheelersburg was 16-4 regular season that year with three league losses.

Belpre defeated the Pirates in the 2001 District Final game at the Convo on their way to state. My last three years (2000, 2001, 2002), the team we (Wheelersburg) lost to in the tournament went on to State:

2000: Canal Winchester (Defeated Wheelersburg 92-89 (2OT) in the Regional Semifinals)

2001: Belpre (Defeated Wheelersburg 58-44 (?) in the District Finals)

2002: Eastern Brown (Defeated Wheelersurg 83-61 in the Regional Semifinals)

Belpre is going to have to take care of the ball better against the 'Burg if their going to win or even have a chance in this one. I'll definitely be there pulling for the Eagles, but Wheelersburg is obviously the favorite in this one.

Wheelersburg beat Belpre in Athens in 1957 I believe, then went on to play Chillicothe in the finals with Chillicothe winning that one.

Hope this game turns out to be a classic. Belpre is very young but this game could put them on the map the next couple years

I could have sworn that Belpre beat Wheelersburg back in 1993. I thought it was in the district championship game at the Convo. I know Belpre beat Chesapeake for the regional crown that year.
