With a 29 point effort Tuesday night vs. Ironton, Portsmouth Trojans senior guard Kyre Allison is only 12 points short of becoming the school's all time leading scorer. The 6-1 Allison has been a 4 year starter, and during his time has helped lead the Trojans to a 57-30 record with a district final appearance in 2014 and a regional final appearance in 2015. Marshall University has taken serious interest in Kyre, as they watched him vs. Chesapeake, a game in which Kyre tallied 29 points and showed his whole set of skills. Kyre's career high in a single game is 33 points vs. Chillicothe in 2014. He has had 5 games scoring 30 or more points.
The current Portsmouth HS scoring record (1,485 points) all time is held by Craig Tubbs, who graduated in 1979, and had a senior scoring avg. of 24.5 PPG. Craig was known for his silky smooth jump shot, and even without the 3 pointer in those days still distinguished himself as the top Trojan scorer in history. Craig helped lead the Trojans to the 1978 Class AA state championship, and is the second highest scorer in Trojan state tournament history with 39 points, only 1 behind Jeff Lisath.
Best wishes to Kyre as he is ready to sit atop a long list of great Trojan point makers!!

Craig Tubbs and I just had a great conversation about this young man, we would love to be there to see him break the record and continue to make his mark in the history of this great High School Basketball Program that we love. On behalf of Craig and myself we wish you the very best Kyre and we both want you to not only break it...shatter it! Always much love, honor and respect for The Portsmouth Trojans!

Congrats...that's some pretty serious names that Allison will forever be associated with. Hoping that he ends up at Marshall as he would fit D'Antoni's system well.*

Kyre, of course, has played his entire career under Coach Eugene Collins. Coach Collins took over as PHS head coach in 2010 and since has had the single game highest scorer twice (breaking Larry Hisle's 41 points in 1965).......first, Dion McKinley with 42 vs. Logan in 2012, and then that record was broken the very next season in 2013 by Jayllen Carter with 44 vs. Jackson. Wayne Evans and Dion McKinley posted 1,096 points each playing for Coach Collins, and now Kyre Allison is only 12 points shy of a 37 year old record. Also, 16 times have players scored 30 or more points in a single game during Coach Collins' time.

Congratulations, Kyre!!........26 points last night vs. South Point puts him at 1,493 points. He is officially #1 on the all time scoring list for Portsmouth High School. Very nice ceremony after the game, and many fans stayed to congratulate him. The South Point team and fans also paid tribute to Kyre, which was very classy on their part. Also thanks to PHS AD Joe Albrecht for presenting Kyre with a very nice trophy commemorating his accomplishment, and to Craig Tubbs for the letter congratulating Kyre which Joe read during the post game ceremony.
To be the #1 scorer at Portsmouth High School is an incredible achievement, given the tradition of great players that have played for the Trojans.
Kyre is averaging 23.2 PPG through 14 games.

Congratulations to Kyre on this fine accomplishment. I wish you well as you finish your senior year and in the years to come. The Trojans have a proud history and tradition in basketball through the years. Craig Tubbs was a fine basketball player at Portsmouth and held the record for a very long time.
