... after 5 years of battling melanoma ... I heard the words every person who has cancer wants to hear come from their oncologist's mouth ... "there is no evidence of disease" - N.E.D. !!!!!!! it was a long day from 9am - 4 ish pm BUT I heard the words ... smiling & crying at the same time CAN BE DONE !!! ...

* melanoma detected October 2009
* melanoma resected from lower right calf - 9 inch scar ...
* melanoma metastasized to lungs, liver ...
* treatment of High Dosage Interferon for 2 months /daily chemo treatments
* left lung resection ...
* melanoma metastasized to right lung ... intestines ...
* started lukkine self injections for 3 months ... melanoma took hold in the pleura of both lungs ... large intestines
* stopped lukkine ... started Zelboraf chemo treatments May 2012 - October 2012
* melanoma spread to lower right eye lid ... removed through MOHS surgery ... right eye sewn shut for 8 weeks after skin graft ...
* November 2012 Zelboraf STOPPED the melanoma from spreading ... received my first "STABLE" CT scans ...
* the oncology team decided to go with the most potent treatment they had on the immunotherapy side - IL2
* 33 days spent in the James ICU - the IL2 required 13 day stays in a row/5 day recovery/repeat in the ICU due the stress it put on my heart/kidney (I found out I only had one kidney )
* 3 cycles of IL2 later finished in Feb. 2013
* "STABLE" CT scans
* June 2013 surgery to remove the cancer from my intestines ... 12 day stay at the James ...
* NO new treatments since the IL2 ... STABLE CT scans ...
* January 22, 2015 ... Stable CT scan ... docs put me 1 year out for my next CT scan ...
* February of 2015 ... adopted our 4th dogger from the humane society ... named her N.E.D. (No Evidence of Disease) ... I needed something to get me over the hump - I said "here N.E.D.!" ... "stop N.E.D.!" ... "enough barking N.E.D. !!!" ... you get the idea - I focused on N.E.D. all year !!!

* January 21, 2016 ... CT Scans ... N.E.D. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you - SEOPS for being a great support group for me for the last 5 years ... in a game that had me going up against something I shouldn't have beaten - I was able to stay positive , SEOPs gave me "something" "I HAD TO DO - follow high school hoops - because the folks wanted to read about hoops - gave me a purpose /a goal ... I got the "W" today ... N.E.D. ... thank you all ...
