If I don't have to work, I plan on going to this game..........should be a really good one, with the Cavaliers' tough D trying to contain the Fighting Tigers' Trey Fletcher and Zac Carter. Malik London of CHS vs. Fletcher is a matchup that will be worth watching.

No, they did not play Dayton Jefferson. I think they had to cancel the game because there was a scheduling conflict.

I've said all year that Ironton's half court defense is not good enough to win a regional championship. Tomorrow's game should give us a measuring stick into whether that has changed. In two games against Portsmouth, the Cavs scored 43 and 34 points, for an average of 38.5 ppg. It will be interesting to cross-check how many are scored Tuesday night in the Conley Center.
We know the Tigers are very talented. We know they can score. But will they put their minds to stopping people? To get where they want to go, this team has to play more with an "edge" on D, more of a swagger. As a team, they have to decide that the ball is just not coming into the lane when Ironton is on defense. Period.
That takes a lot of work and determination. It is about forcibly imposing your will on an opponent. There is nothing nice about that kind of ball. But there is nothing dirty or illegal about it either. It does require an attitude and a certain determination. I saw flashes of that in the second Greenup game, but that's about the only time this year. And Chillicothe is no Greenup.
Tomorrow's game should be a good one. Chillicothe is an excellent, well-coached basketball team. It will take Ironton's best effort to pull out a win. Both squads will be trying to put some spit polish on a couple of very succesful 2011-2012 campaigns. Hopefully, both teams will emerge from this game better prepared for their respective tournament journeys.
