Wheelersburg 08-09
O.K. what does the team have coming back next year...let's discuss the players....what does the team need to improve? Please be constructive.
Re: Wheelersburg 08-09
Rumor has it that the head coach may be applying at Peebles? Any truth to that, anyone know?

Re: Wheelersburg 08-09
Wheelersburg lost 8 seniors, so there will be a lot of new faces on the Pirates' roster. Andy Stegman and Tyler Lang are the 2 starters returning.......the Burg will field another good team.......their record may not be as outstanding as the last 3 years, but the Pirates will always be a threat in the SOC and the tourney.

Barrick has had a lot of success at Wheelersburg, I don't see him leavin for a while. I see the Pirates being a top team in the SOC once again.

I say that this year they will go 16-4 or maybe a couple games worse but not too bad just because they dont have too much experience that will be on the court.

Re: Wheelersburg 08-09
There is a boy named Whitley that I believe will be a freshman or a sophmore next season that will be a realy good asset to the Pirates. I think the Pirates will be just fine next year with Stegman, Lang, Shankwieler, Whitley, and some others whose names escape me that played JV last season. I look for anywhere from 15 to 18 regular season wins and a shot at another SOC II title.
Oak Hill will be the team to beat next season, but I believe the Pirates will be right there as well.

Whitley will be a freshman this year and I had a chance to see him play a few times last year and he can help the Pirates team next year as he has alot of skill for a young kid he just needs to keep workin hard and get a little stronger for the varsity level.
Wheelersburg lost 8 seniors last year that logged alot of minutes but they still have some talented kids that have the ability to step in and lead burg to another SOC II title

Burg will be Burg. Barrick will find a way to get the best out of the kids he has playing for him.
I remember after Burleson left and all they really had coming back was Matt Weaver, no one expected them to do much and they went out and won 16-17 games and won the sectional that year. 2003 I think.
They won't have alot of size, but should be very quick. Playing in a new gym could be an asset as they will at least be able to practice in there on a regular basis and get used to the intangibles of the gym, whereas all the teams that they play at home this year, this will be there first time shooting on that floor and they will have to get used to the student section that will be behind the basket. That will be somehting different and unique to this area.

That was the 2003 season. That season and this upcoming season look to be similar situations. The 2003 season returned only one starter (Weaver) and only two other players with any varsity experience. The season started slow, but that team really worked to become better and used all of their ability to win 14 regular season games (including a great performance against a very good Ironton team on the road; one of best team performances I've ever watched). Weaver was, to use Coach Barrick's term, a "warrior" for that team. I really believe that Stegman can fill that role for this team. I know this will be a good defensive team that will help them stay in some games and help them pull a wins out that maybe they shouldn't get (a Barrick trademark).

The new school is supposed to be turned over by July 16th. But I can tell you, I highly doubt that they make the date. It is coming along a little bit each day but, it is WAY behind.

But, to answer your question, unless something happens and work on the school falls WAY behind, Wheelersburg will be in the building for the school year and will be playing basketball games there to.

How can the school be way behind. They had a very warm winter to work in and the weather hasn't been that bad to have any delays. I was told not to long ago that they were ahead of schedule, so what happened.

I work in the new building everyday and I know that things are running behind. Alot of small things. People trying to blame other people for the slow progress. Like I said, the school WILL be ready but, the completion date has changed several times.
Re: Wheelersburg 08-09
I know Burg will compete for the SOC title with Coach Barrick at the helm, I think if all the boys work hard and believe in the coaching staff they will have a competive ball club this year, not to mention the soon to be 8th grade bunch that will be freshman after next year also have some talented playmakers on that club that I think could contribute right away @ the varsity level along with Whitley

I think Whitely will. Given the talent before them, I don't think any of the class of 13 will be on the varsity level as freshmen, but that class at WB has some really good potential players.
Re: Wheelersburg 08-09
Burg will win as usual. They have a great coach, players...mabey not the depth, and fans. I see 15-19 wins! not to bad for a group of young men.
