Peake is 8-0. The SJI win over Fairland does not count as a conference win. Peake still has games against Rock Hill Away and River Valley at home.

Fairland's record is correct...after that, I don't know. But anything other than #1 doesn't matter all that much, so close enough.

Thats kind of an idiotic statement. For a team like coal grove that has been aweful for probably 10 years, a 3rd place finish with a first year head coach would be huge.

I didn't say it didn't matter at all. I said it didn't matter much. Sure, it matters to Coal Grove. Placement in a conference can be a barometer for improvement. Third place means something when it seemed unattainable at some point. But the difference between #2 and the rest of the league this year is vast.

Teams don't hang banners for third place in their gyms, bronze is the ugliest of the three medal colors and the only place where you find a phrase like "second runner-up" is a beauty pageant. Our 8th grade girls finished third this season...they felt they were good enough to compete for 1st. Ask them and they will tell you...third doesn't matter much. The gym wasn't packed Friday night in Proctorville because we were battling for third. Or even second for that matter. We were battling for the only number that matters in the OVC...#1.

I stand by my statement. A year from now, the only people that will remember who finished third in the OVC will be the team who finished third. It was no more idiotic a statement than one that includes "awful" spelled with an "e". :122249

I tend to agree with pantherdad. And, I really believe that mindset is a reason Chesapeake is the team to beat most years in the OVC, because they set championships as their goal. They aren't satisfied without them. Winning breeds winning.

That being said, I think CG is headed in the right direction. They should be proud of where they are and where they're going...but not satisfied! Best of luck to all teams in the OVC the rest of the way.

Jesco-yes you agree with panther dad and thats why peake always wins? I never said anything about the peake. Thank you for your random info.

I never said cg should hang a banner for third place. Thanks for rambling on about your middle school team which no one cares about. This is a hs board.

goUK,

What is your point? I said nothing but positive things about Coal Grove? What are you snapping at me for?

I apologize for my ramblings. Yours are much more entertaining.

I guess this means you won't accept my Friend request on Facebook now?

no one can deny that peake has had a great program the last few years. but after the class of '12 leaves they don't have much to offer. they keep javon which is a great basketball player but not enough to carry the team. chad meadows is ok but not that much experience. Not saying fairland will be the best next year but chesapeake's years of being the best are numbered and you can't deny that!

I will give you that OVC DOMINANCE like we've seen the last three years is probably gone for now. But I still strongly believe it will come down to Peake and Fairland again next year, with the Dragons probably being the pre-season favorite. Peake starts 5 freshmen on JV most games and Fairland is the only OVC team to beat us so far this year. Most if not all of those freshmen will need to contribute on the varsity squad as sophomores. But all of the OVC teams lose key players for next year.

Peake will be young...but don't count them out. They will still run like deer and play 32 minutes of in your face defense. You don't win 20 OVC championships since 1988 by accident. A lot can happen in maturity and development in a year. I know one player who will be working his butt off this summer to make sure Purple Nation doesn't fade during his time wearing the colors.

What do you mean by the "last few years"? Chesapeake has had a solid program since 1988, and yes they will be down next year but as usual 1 or 2 players will step up and they will contend for the OVC title. When you have a program like Chesapeake has and a coach that gets 100% out of average players then you have a good combination for a lot of wins. As far as "Chesapeake's years of being the best are numbered", I highly doubt that, remember what they say at Chesapeake, "They don't rebuild, they just reload!" No one can deny that little 'ol Chesapeake is the OVC's Daddy!

2012-2013 is that year all OVC teams have been looking for. Peake will come back to the pack a bit and the OVC will be as wide open as its been for a while. But Peake will still expect to win, others will hope to win. That is a big difference when games get close and legs get tired.

And I guarantee you, despite youth and rawness of talent, Peake will be the best conditioned team on the court and they will not get out hustled. So yes, the Panthers are vulnerable next year. But expecting to beat Peake because they are young will be a mistake.
