Portsmouth's 4 state championship's.Little facts.

Post by mark »

About a week ago, someone wrote;(if we were div3,we would have banners hanging at our place to; just like the Trojans do) The fact is,The Trojans,do not own any state championships in D3.How-ever,did appear in the final 4,In 2011.The Trojans,do have (2) big school titles, 1931 and 1961. Many schools, who are (D1) today; such as, CantonMc,Middletown, and so on,those same schools were playing in the big school tournament in those days. You could say; that the Trojans, own the equivalent of two (D1) state crown's. The Trojans, also, won the 1978,(AA) state championship. In 1988,the Trojans were the (D2) state champions.I guess, what i am trying to say; is, that, Portsmouth, has won state titles at every level except the current div in which they play now,(D3). Hopefully, Portsmouth, can get that done soon. The Trojans, of course, has not played in( D4). YET!!!

Great post! They can't take away our banners or our history. If those same fans were to experience the same type of success that our Trojans have had...those same fans wouldn't be so critical of our teams accomplishments. All in all, I know who uttered those words and everytime we beat them, I'll know in my heart we have 4 state banners to their none. And even when we lose to them, we'll have 4 state banners to their none.....unless of course they win a state title this year....at which case we'll still have more state titles than them! Just sayin

Like I told Mark last night, some people choose knowledge, others choose ignorance........

Portsmouth is a newcomer to D3.........2002 was Portsmouth's first year in D3, then PHS went back to D2 in 2003, and from 2004 to the present time have stayed D3.........the Trojans suffered the worst decade in school history during this period, going 52-100 from 2000-2009, the only losing decade in PHS history.

Portsmouth was in the BIG school class from 1923 (when the OHSAA began tournament play) to 1977.........PHS then entered tournament play in 1978 as a Class AA school and continued as a AA school until 1988.........from 1988 to 2001, Portsmouth was a D2 school.

Portsmouth has won the state title in the BIG class of the two-class system (1931 and 1961), won the Class AA state title in 1978 in the three class system (AAA, AA, and A), and then won the VERY FIRST D2 state title in 1988 when the OHSAA expanded to 4 divisions that year.

Portsmouth is the only SE district school to have won the BIG school state championship in any sport.

Last year, the Trojans made their 10th Final 4 appearance and 14th state appearance overall.........while it was their first as a D3 school.

ONLY CANTON MCKINLEY HAS BEEN TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT MORE THAN THE PORTSMOUTH TROJANS!!

Portsmouth High School has the greatest track record of tournament success of any SE District school........to make the Final 4 last year as a D3 school just may be the start of some great tournament runs in D3........the Trojans' program has been gaining that winning momentum with each year.

The tournament record of the Portsmouth Trojans speaks for itself..........that is, of course, if one chooses knowledge over ignorance!!
