Logan at Athens; Tuesday 1-10-12; A Rivalry Re-Newed

Post by Loganchiefsnation »

Logan travels to Athens Tuesday night to renew this storied rivalry. Back in the 80's this was the most heated game Logan played each year, with the Stiversons vs, the Corrigans, Scott Strickland, Tim Moore, Jim Redd, Scott Dicomminada (Sp?) McAllister, Kerry York and all types of great games with the names. Last year Logan won with a shot right before the buzzer and Athens was not happy. Different year, same teams, same history. What say you???

After last weeks performance that logan put on at Jackson............. Uhhh.....I think I'll take Athens. Looks like Logan's kids and coaches have thrown in the towel. I hope I am wrong but.......things are not looking good.

Looks like something is wrong at Logan. I think that they should put the coaches on the floor ( They being the school board) to play the rest of the games. In my opinion the kids are calling the shots just look at the lack of disipline on the floor. So at least the coaching staff will have some say in the outcome and earn at least a little of their pay check. What a shame. Maybe if the board pulls the trigger on a few more coaches and logan gets in the TVC they can at least finish around 500 in some sports. Let me think. NO I DOUBT IT.

Trouble is little Eddie and Johnny's parents, grandparents and the Board Of Ed. are running the show!

Loved the games back then - loved the atmosphere for those games ... Except the part of being cramed into Logan's (auditorium?) - isn't that what you would call the thing you passed off as a gymnasium?

If kids today had any idea how bad it ways to play basketball on a stage ... It seems hilarious to even think about - but we did in fact play in that ridiculous set-up in Logan ... lol ... "Hey, come out to Logan for the chorus concert on Wednesday night, a school play on Thursday, then we'll clear away the props and have us a basketball game on Friday."

If I remember right, Logan now has 2 gyms better than Athens.. They just need to learn to play
in them.

Athens hardly brings a crowd to their home games even when they are having a great season. I just don't get it.

Actually the crowds have been pretty good the last few years.

Logangrad wrote:It was "The Purple Pit" baby!!! A pink and purple nightmare!! The Luck Fogan tshirts in 1989 were classy. The game at Logan during the 1988-89 season had so many people they sent a bunch to the cafeteria to watch the game on tv because the auditorium was so full. It was crazy. I miss those days.
I was down in front - standing in the corner right off the stage ... I got into a small altercation, or war of words per say, with a big guy in cowboy boots (a.k.a. Brian Lambert) - then made the smart decision to go and hide in the crowd the rest of the game ...

The Luck Fogan shirts were cool - I think I might still have one somewhere ... As was the 'NO WAY JOSE' signs that were put up all over McAfee in the rematch at the end of the season. In reference to Jose Medina.

As for the crowds at Athens games now ... There was a pretty good one on hand for the NY game Friday - but the gym was pretty empty for a few other home games (i.e. vs Gallia & Morgan).

The Athens Bulldogs look to erase a three game losing streak as they start off a very tough week, that features three games. The Chieftans were winless until they upset TVC-Ohio leader Vinton County, 62-53.

The midweek game can be heard on 970 WATH and 97.1 FM Athens or online at athensi.com, just scroll down the right side of the page to WATH AM.

The action begins at 7:15 with pregame and tipoff is set for 7:30.

I can't imagine a big turn out for this once big time game. Logan with only 1 win and Athens on a losing streak on a Tuesday night. I'm sure it won't be like the old days.

Evidently, Sharp is sorely missed at Athens.

But, great win for Logan! Go SEOAL.
