It's going to be a tough couple days for the Tigers. They play Huntington and then travel to the Convo the next day for a 5:45 game against ST Clairsville.

GO TIGERS.........

Does anyone know Huntingtons lineup? i heard through the grapevine that their point guard is injured. Any truth to that rumor?

They will have no answer for Fletcher. They don't have size in the post.

They won't have an answer for Carter either. I doubt any team this year will have one.

Both teams are coming off tough games. Ironton was able to squeak by on the road against undefeated Waverly and Jake Kretzer (#129 shooting forward in nation class of 2012 per ESPN.com). Huntington didn't fare quite as well on its home court against undefeated South Charleston and Jon Elmore (#39 shooting guard in nation class of 2014 per ESPN.com), although it was just a 3 point game headed into the final stanza.

Of course, the Fighting Tigers feature Zac Carter (#71 point guard in nation class of 2013 per ESPN.com), along with talented mates Trey Fletcher and company. Huntington returns second team West Virginia AAA all-stater Toquan Hayes. The Tigers bring back a bit more experience than the Highlanders, but Huntington is a huge school (1299 students versus just 335 at Ironton) with many capable athletes. I look for a very fast-paced, spirited affair. Many of these students played both with and against each other during the summer, so some bragging rights are on the line. Last year, Ironton was able to slow down Huntington's offensive attack by going zone. Look for Huntington to be ready for Lafon's tactic this time around.

I like the fact that Ironton's schedule is dominated by river teams in three states stretching from Portsmouth to Gallipolis, including those two schools plus Huntington, Chesapeake, Ashland, Greenup County, Spring Valley, Russell, Fairland, and Wheelersburg. These teams represent 12 of the Tigers' 20 games, with a mythical King of the Riverrats championship belt awaiting the best of that group. I'd say the belt was owned by Portsmouth in 2010-2011, and the Panthers of Chesapeake in 2009-2010. Will Ironton be up to the task in 2011-2012?
