Big game for both teams. It will be a close game throughout but I look for Wayne to come out on fire similar to the way he torched former Seoal Member Marietta last year.
Portsmouth 65
Ironton 61

Actually, I think this is not a "big" game..........it's too early in the season to be considered a "big" game.........both teams are still trying to work out the kinks of new lineups and rosters..........it may affect tournament seedings, but these two teams most likely will meet in the postseason at some point anyway.
Of course I would love to see Portsmouth win, but there's still plenty of basketball left after Saturday night.

Should be a great game. If the Trojans are gonna win their league, this is a big game.
Good luck!

... is this going to be a triple-header with both a freshmen and JV game preceding the SHOW? ... should be an excellent contest between 2 of the projected powers in Southern Ohio hoops this season ...

I'm gonna change my earlier prediction . If White plays
I sAy Ironton wins, didn't c him n th box scores n valley
game , thought he couldave been off th team , but mustve
been injured , hheard he's still on th team. Everybody knos
Carter, fletchr cn pla but white is a beast to an when he's n
the line up , ther much better team!

Ironton and Portsmouth is always a classic, regardless of the sport. I remember playing against Craig Tubbs, Jeff Lisath, Scott Burrows, Scott Tayler, the Bendolph brothers, Kirk McMahon, Jim Shipp, the Wilburn twins and more. Never a dull moment in those games.

I was a junior on the Ironton team and Portsmouth had beaten us already that year. I was tasked with guarding Tubbs and I believe he had about 22 points in that game. Portsmouth was the defending state champs and I think we caught them looking ahead. Had they not played us earlier in the season and won like they did, there may have been a different outcome to the district championship. I think the same thing happened to us after beating Portsmouth. We won the next regional semi-final game but lost to Urichsville-Claymont, a team that we should have beaten. Thats why you play the games. You never know what will happen. When I was a senior, we were undefeated and Ashland, KY was undefeated when we met. The were ranked 2nd in the state of KY and 24th in the USA Today polls I believe. We played on a Tuesday night and Ashland had Dematha to play that weekend. We won and they were never the same team afterward. They were looking ahead. Of course, we got the big head after that game and got beat by Athens at home in our next game.
Our other losses that year was to Portsmouth at home, Russell, Ky and Piketon in the sectional opener. A major disappointment to a good season.
