On paper the Trojans should win easy but dont go by that. Logan will bring there A game and the Trojans have been playing 1 half per game. We need to play 2 good halfs to win. I will be there looking forward to seeing Plyod and his staff!!! (THE NAPKINS)

I have seen Logan play vs. West Muskingum, and I can say this about the 2-6 Chieftains.......they are athletic, don't have much size, and Patrick Angle is as good a guard as there is in the SEOAL. LHS has actually played competitive basketball in most of their games, and I look for more of the same vs. Portsmouth.

Portsmouth has been working very hard on boxing out......I have been to practice a couple of times this week, and it has been the main emphasis of the coaching staff. Poor rebounding has been one of the main reasons that PHS lost to Chillicothe and Ironton........Minford outrebounded the Trojans......making it 3 straight games that PHS was on the short end of the rebounding battle. Ozzie is right.......the Trojans have got to be more consistent throughout a game, particularly in the second half.

To date the leading scorers for Portsmouth are Anthony Williams(16 PPG), Tory Horne(14 PPG), and Andrew Bendolph(11 PPG).

Portsmouth is averaging 65.3 PPG, while allowing 57.9 PPG. The offensive numbers are about the same as last year, but the defensive numbers are much better, almost 10 points fewer than in 2007-2008.

Although Logan has played quite a few games under 50-60 points, I look for an uptempo game........I know Portsmouth will try to push the pace, and given the Chieftains athleticism and lack of size, they may do the same. If the Trojans can get the ball off the glass better this game, they have an excellent chance to win. PHS cannot afford another SEOAL loss if it wants to remain a contender for the SEOAL South title.

GO TROJANS!!!

So far this basketball season is producing good gate receipts at the home games......I believe right now they have surpassed what they made all last year.......I'm glad to see our fans coming back and supporting the kids, and also at the same time seeing our athletic program in better financial shape. There are still 7 home games left............$$$$$$$$ will come in if Portsmouth can keep winning.......

Also congratulations to the Portsmouth freshmen team which upped their record to 8-0 with a 66-30 win over the Piketon Redstreaks. PHS plays at Northwest tonight.

GO TROJANS!!!

Congratulations to the Chieftains on the win.......they outplayed Portsmouth in the second half, which has been a recurring theme for the Trojans in their 3 losses. PHS did outrebound Logan 34-27, so that was one bright spot, after being outrebounded the last 3 games. Anthony Williams played a fine game for Portsmouth, with I believe 22 points. Tory Horne chipped in with 15. Despite being in foul trouble, Anthony did a good job on the boards as well.

I thought Portsmouth allowed too much dribble penetration by the Chieftains which resulted in easy baskets or assists for baskets. Defensively it was not one of the Trojans' better games. In addition, Portsmouth did a poor job of staying with Patrick Angle, who scored 23 points and had too many open looks throughout the game. I knew going in that Angle was the main threat for the Chieftains, but we didn't shadow him like we did Dustin Green of Ironton.

Offensively, I thought Portsmouth ran a patient half court offense, but simply just didn't get enough points from more people. Anthony and Tory couldn't carry the whole team on the scoreboard. They did their part........but we didn't get hardly anything from anyone else.

It was a very disappointing loss, which was the third consecutive Friday that Portsmouth has lost on. Last night's game was the 4th consecutive game that PHS was outscored in the third quarter. And looking back in all of those games, the Trojans won only the Minford game due to a 15-5 advantage in the 4th period. In the other games, all losses, the third quarter changed the momentum to the opponent's side, and PHS couldn't recover.

Still, we're 6-3, and I'm trying very hard to put this one behind me........but it's not easy after what I saw last night.

Hopefully our kids can rebound vs. Jackson on Tuesday against the improved Ironmen, and Friday Portsmouth has a rugged challenge as they travel to Marietta.

GO TROJANS!!!

I have seen Portsmouth 3 times, and listen to them on the radio 3 times, and IMHO the Trojans are not making good half time adjustments and the other teams are making better ajustments.

These are kids, just kids learning a game no one has all the answers, just let them grow before attacking and calling them street-ball players ,thats not very mature, and is very negative,im an adult and im still learning so give the boys a chance to get better and always remember ITS JUST A GAME!

Not saying that at all!Just think the kids have to get used to each other and learn to play together, its not always easy to get talent to mesh!

congtrats to Logan ..Angle is a great player, even though Logan was 2 and what ever, they atre still capable of beating a lot of teams on Portsmouths schedule.

playing the teams in our league, will for sure prepare the Trojans for Post season.
