Whiteoak's all-time leading scorer with 1470 points and a 2006 graduate is doing well at Southern State.

Why is he at Southern State? Could he have went any where else? Is he going to transfer or anything?

I don't know why he is there...but am glad he is doing well.
I'll guess...he had to go to college, he wanted to stay near his family and he wanted to play basketball. If that is the correct GUESS.....he did all 3.

I had heard that Barnett was playing well for Southern State. Congratulations on the Player of the Week honor. Also, Peebles grad Brade Wallace is also playing there and has been shooting the lights out from what I hear in the last several games too. Those two Southern Hills League boys have been carrying them pretty well lately.

He along with Tirell Cumberland are scoring like crazy...which both could do in high school....now the opponent can't just focus on one.
Brade Wallace has been doing well from the columns I've read.
As for how good Southern St is....it's hard to say as the schedule is many insanly small colleges or JV teams of NAIA schools. They beat Rio Grande JV by about 40.....so I'd like to believe they could compete with Rio's regular team......but have no clue.
I do know Robbie is the single most stubbornly competitive kid I've ever coached or been around.

Congrats to Robbie, he was a lot of fun to watch in h.s.
Brade Wallace is at SSCC? I thought he signed to play at Wilmington?

They lost to OU-Chillcothe in a shoot out like 104-95. OUC is led by several former SVC stars such as Chris Younge(PV), Nick Milliken(Adena), Derrick Oyer(Hunt). In this game OUC was without 2 regulars who were out with injury. I know Cumberland had 42 in this game for SSU and Milliken had 26 for OUC.

Another obvious reason besides the three Ironman listed = He is on a full scholarship. Despite what a lot of people think a lot of the players who go to Rio and Shawnee and other NAIA schools arent receiving full scholarships. They are basically walk-ons. Going to Southern State for free for two years getting general coursework out of the way and than transferring is pretty smart financially. There is a misconception out there that if you are any good at all in high school that you can play college basketball. Im sorry, but its just not true - even at the D3 schools!

Kids who are actually on athletic scholarships at Rio and Shawnee get full rides.

Southern State beat OU-Chillicothe earlier in the week in a game played at Hillsboro by the score of 124-99. Southern State had four players over 20 points in the game including Cumberland, Barnett, and Wallace. In both games played between these two teams this season it looks like there was plenty of offense being played, that's for sure. I heard that Southern State was only a couple of points off the all-time record for most points scored in a game.

Hbk, how many scholarships do you think Rio has to offer? Its either 12 or 15 and I think it is 12! How many players do they have on their Varsity and JV teams (maybe 30 players total) so that means 18 kids arent getting squat. I understand that kids on scholarship at Rio an SSU get room and board also.
