Re: Portsmouth @ Marietta
If Portsmouth plays like they have during this free fall, I agree Ozzie. We have a number of issues that need to be resolved......we are in need of an Rx for this team.

Re: Portsmouth @ Marietta
Because of the rules and regulations of SEOPS, I am not at liberty to discuss certain things regarding the basketball team.........there are some issues that are being dealt with by the coaching staff.......they are taking firm control of these issues and want to move forward to try and improve the Trojans.
Don't be surprised to see some different lineups/combinations vs. Marietta and in the future........the coaches are open to trying different players to fit various roles.......bottom line is that nobody's job is safe right now..........and that there is someone waiting to take a spot if the need arises........
I have seen a lot of discipline just these past few days........strong discipline.......something that Coach Shoemaker and his staff don't get credit for because it's not seen on the court.........I know one thing, the kids ran their tails off yesterday........and ran......and ran.......and ran some more. When they didn't do what they were supposed to..........they ran some more.
The coaches from this day forward are preparing this team for the tournament.......it may take a few games to adjust to different lineups/rotations, but the goal is to get Portsmouth ready for the postseason......of course they want to win now, but they have 10 games to minimize our weaknesses and strengthen our strengths.
I am impressed with the serious attitude taken to the attention to detail in practice.........I wish more people would attend practice and watch what goes on.......I think they would probably have a different opinion regarding Coach Shoemaker and his discipline.
And while I'm on the topic of discipline, I saw two incidents today in practice where players were sent home...........for some to say that Portsmouth has little discipline in their program is not true.........
Problems do arise from time to time over the course of a season........and Portsmouth has its share.......and they are being dealt with........FIRMLY!!!
GO TROJANS!!! BEAT MARIETTA!!!

ZBD: Maybe beating Ironton at Ironton was the boost of confidence that the Blue Devils needed. ZHS has played competitive even in the games they lost, so they weren't really that far off from winning games.
Zanesville and Portsmouth seem to be going through the same thing right now......and the coaches of both schools are open minded enough to try something different when things are not working well.

Re: Portsmouth @ Marietta
fatalbert: I am not sure as to what the starting lineup will look like tomorrow, but it will be different by probably at least 2 players........in part due to some discipline issues and also due to trying to give this team a boost by trying someone different who can play a needed role.........
Hopefully what happens tomorrow at Marietta will be for the good of the team, whether we win or lose........we are now trying to get ready for the tourney, and we have 10 games to put the best team on the court that Portsmouth has.......notice I said team, and not necessarily individual talent.

Why are people even allowed to attend practice??? I don't think anyone besides the players and the coaching staff should be allowed to see a practice. It is nobody elses business what goes on in practice. Maybe that's part of the problem, to many parents and others attending practice and the kids trying to show off and goof off in front of family instead of paying attention and listening to the coaching staff. I know Coach Shoemaker is young and may not realize this, but if he doesn't nip this in the bud now it could end up being a situation like Green where the parents dictate what is going on and influence the coach and players. If this was my team I would close the doors to any outsiders and have closed practices. Just my opinion.

Also, I really don't find Portsmouth demise in the last few games all that unbelievable. I have only saw them play one game and that was against the Burg and I came away from that game saying that if Portsmouth didn't start playing team ball and get away from the "me, me, me" attitude I saw out of a few players that they would struggle to win games this year even though they are the most athletic team I have seen in this area for years. Of course I got blasted for it, but now I see some others are also seeing it that way.
I hope Portsmouth is able to turn things around, but until the players change their attitudes, listen to the coaching staff, and start playing a lot better defense I just don't see it happening.
