Ironton Saint Joseph senior Chad Harvey scores 40 points in a 72-47 win over Ohio Valley Christian.
The 40 points were rumored to be a school record and he surpassed the previous mark of 35 held by his MOM, Andrea Harvey. Apparently it was just the girls record. I always thought those Harvey's were odd

The record for most points scored in a game is 50. Are you refering to a different record set?

The mailman never scored 40? That is hard to believe, with as many shots as he was pumping up?
Congratulations Chad! Great game and continued good luck to the Flyers the rest of the way!

The Mailman scored 50 and I believe JF Scherer scored 49 in a game more than once.

Scoring 40 points is impressive but it is not a school record. The record is held by (Postman) Jim Mahlmeister who once scored 50. J.F. Scherer scored 49 twice (I sawone of them) in 1970 and Shawn Hacker also scored more than 40 at least once if not more. Great effort by Chad but no record.

Turk, who drove to the Cabana Club afterwards for the postgame " interviews"? You do know that I heard Mahl many times on the workroom floor say that he was in junior high when you were in college but I would always call b***s*** and Mahl. would just smile :)

That napkin would be an antique. Don't do it. Next time the antique roadshow is in the area you could take a few of them.

Why are we leaving George Gagai's scoring exploits out of this discussion?

Surely GG put up a double-nickel or two back in the day?!?!

Great job by a great kid. Where does Chad stand in the all time scoring category???

Jim (mailman) Mahl has got to be highest (with no 3point shot, 5oo point difference)
Dave Gagai
Dressell trio......

What is the record?

Dutchman??

The Mailman's career total is 1768. I think that Coach Dressel is 2nd but I'm not sure on the total. I'd say Chad will end up in the top 5 by season's end because it seems like most totals are less than 1200 and he'll surpass that if he hasn't already.

BWH, I think you are spot on.Coach D. is second and I think Joe Dressel is 3rd. Harvey will finish in the top five, maybe as high as 3rd depending on these last 6 or 7 games.

Not to take away from anyone else's performances, but like was stated earlier, the Mailman (not Goose) played long before the 3-point line was painted on the court. As legend has it, quite a few of his shots were taken from beyond 20 feet (I'm sure TTT and RRR could verify that). With the 3-point line, Jimmy Mahl's 50 point game very well could have been 60+, and his 1,768 career points could have been 1,900+.

Goose was just a glimmer in his dad's eye when the Postman and TTT and RRR played, however he has always been and always will be a faithful follower of the Purple and Gold.....and you are correct that the Postman would have had a much higher point total had the 3-point arc been in existence. My job was to handle the inbound passes and RRR's job was to handle the assists. And RRR still holds the Lawrence County record for assists. I dont think they kept records on inbound passes back in the day.........
