Ironic.....the 2 smallest schools pack in the most people....and deliver by far the best game!

That great that the Oak Hill/Kalida matchup produced the biggest draw of the day. It just shows the great support these small schools get from their towns and areas, unlike the inner city schools who only get a few fans from their schools.

I went to the Sweet Sixteen at Rupp Arena this year, and the second day of the tournament the attendance was over 21,000........on the Friday I went, I would have estimated the crowd to be over 20,000........makes the Ohio figures not very impressive.......the Schott can hold almost 20,000 for basketball, and time and again there are numerous empty seats. I sat in Section 321 this year, and I could pick about any seat I wanted for most games.

Oak Hill brought darn near the whole county with them so I'm not sure there is much more we could have done to help add to the attendance. I think it was a pretty impressive draw for 2 small communities.

2 words "BAD ECONOMY"!ALot of people are hurting financially in Ohio! The big school game generally is the smallest crowd of the tournament just about every year,Just more coummunity involvement at the smaller schools! ;-)I have been every year since 1999 and the D-1 game has had the smallest crowd of all the title games every year I have been!

I don't think we are talking apples to apples. The Sweet 16 runs two games per session if I am not mistaken, and the finals this year drew a little over 15,000. Heres the link if anyone wants to see it.

Most years the DIII and DIV schools bring more people as they are more community oriented and bring the whole county and most of the time fans from neighboring counties. Every now and then when the DI school's like Cincinnait St. X or Canton McKinley make it they will bring a ton of fans but even at that you can find tickets on the ground outside a lot of times for the DI final which is always the last game of the tournament as a lot of the "every year" folks that have been there for most of the weekend get an early start home and since it is the last game played, the casual fans that might take in more than one game at some point during the previous two days also head out early for the trip home. The total number of "fans in the stands" is also smaller than the announced attendance because they go by number of tickets sold and there is always a few hundred tickets that scalper's have but can't get rid of and have to eat them or people that originally bought extras for people who then could not attend and for numerous other reasons. The economy does have something to do with it also and if they keep raising ticket prices like they've done twice in the last five years I get a feeling pretty soon the schott will really start feeling empty because a lot of the hard core tournament fans that come to most games every year are starting to dwindle and less and less fans are coming every year if the upper deck this year is any indication from what I saw.

I have watched several D1 games for next to nothing. Son and I were given tickets outside one year, got two for a buck one year, and this was at St John Arena. That same year we got there just after the 6:00 DII tip and the usher let us in free, so two games for a net of 25 cents each!.

It was offset by $35 avg. to see Lebron.

Guess there were alot of Oak Hill Alumni like myself that made the trip to Columbus. From what I saw in the other games on STO, the Oaks game was the best.

Once again congrats from a proud out of town alumni!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would expect high attendance for a Basketball game in Kentucky.
Being a basketball state and all.

15,000 at the State Finals of the Sweet Sixteen in Kentucky is still better than any attendance figure at the Schott. I love going to the OHSAA state tournament......it is the highlight of the sports year for me.........but it would be nice to see a crowd of 16,000--17,000 at least a couple of games every year. With a state population of over 11 million, and a central location for the tournament, you would think that the crowds would be better.

The basketball state tournament did outdraw the football finals........I think there was only 1 crowd above 10,000 for a state championship football game. And Ohio is supposed to be such a huge football state.........

Personally IMO the attendance this year reflects the economic state of Ohio, not the quality of BKB played at the Schott. One of the first things people cut back on in tough times is "entertainment".

Ticket prices kept me away for the first time in 15 years. I wont go back until they come back down to a reasonable price. Which means I probably wont be back. Just another example of the money hungry OHSAA trying to find away to squeeze another buck out of high school sports. The problem is that if enough people quit going, instead of lowering prices the OHSAA will probably just add another division to make up the difference and then some.
