Looks like a nice schedule for the 3 day extravaganza! Mr. Hendershot did a great job of putting this tourney together. Looking forward to watching some of these matchups.

As a Jackson fan, I remember Coach Bruce Hurst, Max Morrow and Chad Carpenter saying that they would never play in this event again and would never play a Jim Derrow coached team ever again, because of the homer job two years ago. I guess Larry the Legend hasn't had the pleasure of meeting Tommy Waldron yet.

The Legend fears no one.lol

I see Chillicothe is not on there this year.

Uh....just last year Larry the Legend was angry numerous times and walked 60 feet onto the court as the ref just let him walk all the way over to him on the far side of the court.

The general first look this looks like a pretty well thought out affair. Very impressive if all those teams show up.

Remembering the Hurst, Morrow and Carpenter coaching year in 2007 it would be nice to know who the officials for the Jackson/Wellston game will be.

Actually Coach Derrow does the complete schedule and Mr. Hendershott will handle the ticket sales. When the event was held in Columbus and Vegas The National Hoops Classic was actually maintained by the Big W Basketball Club - members are Dick Smith,Terry Radekin, John Derrow, Tim Dyson, Terry Gill,
Jim Reipenhoff, J.R. Ervin.
Now that the event is held in Wellston the event will be run by Coach Derrow, Coach Dyson,Coach Gill, Coach B Derrow, Mr. Hendershott and John Derrow will assign the officials.

I dont see why these two schools would come all the way to Ohio to play each other. Is there a reason behind it??? I was just wondering.

Ozzie - Brisbane is coached by Marvin Reed - last season he coached Mt. Zion and they were suppose to play in the Hoops Classic but couldn't come because of weather. Future Prep was suppose to play Detroit Consortium Prep this season but due to Michigan rules they cannot play a team outside 300 miles from Detroit.
We had to make a decision to move Brookhaven off their game with Future Prep so they can play Consortium Prep and that leaves the matchups the way they are. We felt for the best interest of the event we would keep the Wellston-Jackson game as scheduled which means those two Carolina schools must play each other on Sat. They have never played before so I hope it works out for both of them. On Sunday Brisbane will play Lexington Cath and on Monday Wellston will play Future Prep. I hope this answers your question.

Is this the same Hendershot that played basketball for Wellston in 1965/66?
If it is I was in the service with him.

I saw this same crap two years ago. Teams wouldnt come in due to the weather and whatever the reason was. I am sure that Mr. Hendershott put this together, it take time to call wait on return phone calls, so I am sure that Mr. Hendershott started in the spring making schedules, Coach Derrow was suspended in the spring and summer and if remember correctly he was forbidden to have anything to do with Wellston basketball at the time. So I am sure it was Mr. Hendershott that called, I will ask Jacksons AD Mr. Kight the next time I see him and ask him who called to arrange this game. And if it was anybody but Mr. Hendershott I think someone should be in trouble again, they didnt learn their lesson and must not have any remorse.

Why would you want to get someone in trouble for organizing one of the best tournaments in Ohio, and especially in the area. Are you just jealous because Jackson doesn't hold a tournament of this caliber?

Looks like a good tourney. Who is coaching at Wellston this season? Freshman, reserve, assistant, and head coach?

I heard Coach Lambert is not returning. I wonder what is going on at Wellston.

Luckyman00 - Coach Lambert was ask to come back and he chose not to. This was his choice and I think you already knew that. He was a very good player at Wellston and while he was here he worked very hard as a coach. His effort was greatly appreciated. He is welcome back anytime he chooses to come back.

The staff will be as follows: Varsity - Head Coach - Coach Derrow
Varsirty Assistant - Coach Dyson
Varsity Assistant - Coach Gill
Junior Varsity - Coach B Derrow
Freshman - Coach Eberts
Eighth Grade - Coach Briggs
Seventh Grade - Coach Ervin
Program Volunteer - Coach Fouty
Other volunteers may be named later
A good mixture of veterans and youth - we feel we will have an excellent staff.

I hope this answers your question about the staff for the final time this season.
Can we please stay on the subject of the National Hoops Classic on this thread.
Thank You
