Positives and Negitives of a League Offical Assigner.
Positives and Negitives of a League Offical Assigner.
Just curious to hear what some thoughts are on the topic. If a third party was to assign officals would the officiating be any better? I see an assigner as a way to free up a little bit of an athletic directors stress, but whats some other thoughts on the issue??

Someone is always going to cry about the refs. If you don't beleive me just look at the different sites and see how many people are crying about games from last night alone. One site they are already crying about the refs and the game is not till Friday. I guess that way if you lose you are covered.Refs are always going to miss some calls or make some bad calls it happens on every level. I would guess most of the better refs are doing big games so I would say it is hard to find alot of refs in the tvc area to choose from. Bottom line your not going to please people no matter what you do.

The man that assigns the officals in the SHL is a joke he takes care of certain schools and thats about it.

Im guessing that probably some of those schools are Whiteoak, Ripley, and Eastern Brown. It seems every team that plays at these schools leaves with a sour taste in their mouths.

I have yet to see a school lose a game that wasnt the refs fault no matter the score.

Re: Positives and Negitives of a League Offical Assigner.
I personally work in 5 leagues- The assigners have a tough job no matter which way you look at it!!! 1) An assigner will call and ask if you are open for a given # of games. Sometimes I'm open on some, sometimes I've got a game already scheduled. According to who contacted me first!!! If your the last assigner to contact a given crew or crew leader-you may not get that crew at all or only 1-2 in the league that year. On any given night with all the conferences around Southeastern Ohio-you may be getting the bottom of the barrell of officials. That is just the way it works!!!
2) An assigner for any league will always catch the flack for some officials-Why did you put that crew on my game??? All 20 crews that I called before I got this crew were booked!!!! and so on!!
Not an easy job!!!!!

I can see both sides of this argument. It would be nice to have a league assigner so that people are not complaining that the 'schools' are cheating. I think though the only thing this would solve is that it would alleviate the schools from this complaining and it would be directed at the league assigner. Bottom line, the complaining is going to continue so y change things I guess.

If a league really wants to try to get the best officials, they need to have the next seasons games scheduled. It's nice when you go to a game and the assigner is there and checks to see what you have open for next year. Plus it gives him plenty of time to call the top crews early for next season. Then you don't get stuck with officials that schools don't consider to be upper level.
