All right, the big weekend in the Little Ten turned out to be the no-weekend in the Buried Ten, as God cancelled nearly all SHL games. We did get an eyebrow-raising Whiteoak victory over Fairfield (61-39), but there's a lot of basketball left to play. The Eastern/Peebles matchup is delayed until mid-February, which cuts me to the bone. Sixty percent chance on snow on Monday, so we'll see.

Some nice matchups ahead, though. Eastern Brown (7-1, 3-0 SHL) should have their week well in hand, playing West Union (1-3, 0-2 SHL) and Lynchburg (3-4, 2-0 SHL) before heading off to Chesapeake for the Beasts of the Southeast tournament to play South Point.

Peebles (7-0, 3-0 SHL) has a big week ahead of them, playing an inconsistent Manchester team with a solid overall (5-4) and a weak SHL record (1-4). Manchester could be a real threat to Peebles' undefeated run with a healthy Blevins on the roster, and it's never fun playing the Hounds in The Gym Down by the River.

The Hounds get three games in the Gym Down by the River this week, playing Peebles, Lynchburg, and (D-2) New Richmond at home.

The Whiteoak Wildcats (5-5, 2-2 SHL), still pumped from their Fairfield victory, are looking to break free from .500, playing Fayetteville on Tuesday before a BIG SHL game against Ripley (5-3, 2-2 SHL) Friday.

After Whiteoak, Kennedy's Blue Jays have a rough matchup in Georgetown against the 6-2 G-Men.

Fairfield (5-5, 3-2 SHL) has a week to lick their wounds and prepare for a matchup against Fayetteville (2-6, 0-3 SHL).

Also on Friday the fiercest rivalry in the SHL gets a rematch, as the Indians face off against the Green Devils, (1-8, 1-3 SHL). They last met in the Holiday Tournament Finals, where North Adams kept it tight, leading after the first. However, after Blake Justice got going the Indians buried the proud devils by 21, damn-near their first victory against NA since the LAST time Lawhorn coached there. Passions ran high on the hardwood, and Young's Boys are probably itching for a revenge win.

The Devils close out their week at the Beasts of the Southeast Tourney, playing 6-0 Racine Southern Tornadoes. The Tornadoes are probably feeling the sting from pfloyd's snubbing them from his Elite 8, so they'll be playing hard this week.

I'm sure Coach Young and the Devils would like to avenge the holiday tourney loss and Coach Young said in the post game Saturday that he expects to win a game that they shouldn't this season. I doubt this is it though. If NA could somehow hold the Indians to 60 points or under they would have a chance. Only way that is going to happen is if they get Justice and/or Seaman in foul trouble. Justice did a good job guarding Drew Dollich in the tourney but I think if NA could post Drew up on him Drew would have a better chance at scoring and getting some fouls on Justice rather than trying to score from the perimeter where Justice has the advantage on defense. I also think Louden needs to post up more as he is the only size that NA has and he has the ability to do that. The 3rd thing that has to happen is someone besides Louden and D. Dollich has to be a threat to score consistently.

I think you're dead on boomer, but Louden runs point for NA, does he not? Who else can handle the ball for them?

Manchester/Fayetteville rescheduled for February 13th, Ripley/Lynchburg rescheduled for February 16th.

Yes he does but once the ball crosses mid-court I think that they could run some plays to get him the ball on the block.

of course, I wasn't thinking. One thing's for sure, the NA kids will play hard. NA teams hardly ever get technicals, but one player got a flagrant call in the tournament. I remember Lounden pounding the bench when he fouled out...that's a kid that HATES to lose.

I'm just glad to see the Dragons are finally getting to play a game. Because of snow and scheduling they've played half as many games as most other SHL teams.

i don't remember this much involvement in this site until this year from you, could peebles success have something to do with this?

It's true, I'm on the site more now. But I joined last year (when Peebles was 17-3), so success isn't the only reason. I'm on here because a) it's a nice distraction from a stressful job, b) to promote "We are the Indians" and and the North Adams documentary, "We Know," and c) I have a nephew playing some varsity this year, so I'm wanting to keep up on things while living far away. No local news site keeps SHL standings up to date, so I'm doing it.

And, I like talking to you sparky.

The lack of local coverage is a good point. There's a new paper that has started in Adams county I think it's called the Informer. Wonder if they will try to pick the slack by providing better coverage of the local teams.

Not trying to stir anything up but Justice is a better post defender than an on ball defender. Drew Dollich will not be scoring on him in the post very often if at all. Whiteoak/Ripley sounds like the game of the week to me. And the only reason Justice ever has an advantage on the perimeter is because he does that dirty holding stuff lol.

All in all looks like a good week for the shl if we can keep the snow away. GO INDIANS!

I wonder if the Informer has a website. I recently wrote a local paper a long letter, offering ways to improve their site, like updating it more than once a week.
