Last year noticed a change in competitiveness from years past. Lots of guys who were young who suddenly now have varsity experience. I hope to see that competitiveness turn into WINS!!!! Would love to hear others' thoughts!

I saw Jackson three times last year. They are headed in the right direction. The program as a whole was more competitive. Their lack of size hurts in D2, but It does seem that they are doing some good stuff.

Does seem the new coach is pushing them in the right direction, which is good to see.

Really need size! It's tough to win basketball games with your tallest person being 6'1 or 6'2. I expect they will compete in each and every game, and just might surprise a few people along the way. Look for 7-8 wins as a possibility!!! Go Red!!!!

This
I look for .500+ in 2017-2018 and then for the foreseeable future.

They should be able to possibly reach 500 this year.
Almost everyone returning and some new talent.
Had a great summer and the coaches 2nd full year at the helm.
A lot of the teams on the schedule will not be as good as last year. The 4 wins last year could have very easily been at least 8.
I really do think it will be closer if not 500 this year.

Delving deeper into the schedule I can see a 10-win basketball team here.
1st scrimmage this coming Tuesday, November 15th at JHS.

Do the roundballers of Apple Town start play in the new conference this season or next?

All sports will begin new conference play next year, the 2017-2018 school year.
Very exciting times for the student athletes, coaches, and administrators. The new league will always give ALL teams a championship to play for.

Thanks for the info. The Frontier (?) should be strong in bball with Chillicothe, McClain, and Miami Trace year in and year out. Good luck to the Ironmen teams!

Jackson hosted Huntington and Ironton.
Jackson was outstanding against Huntington as they beat them 14-0, 13-0 and 16-9.
Jackson and Ironton matched up pretty well as Ironton won 10-6 and tied I think 8-8. Ironton did have a 6'4ish kid that was injured and another kid on crutches.
Huntington for whatever reason defeated Ironton both times. 9-6 and then like 10-7.
Not sure there was a player over 6'2 between the 3 teams.
Jackson's defense was good and Coach Morrow has them playing their tails off. I liked what I saw.

Good to see Jackson starting off on a high note. Thought Ironton would be farther along .They must be banged up.

I92 ... any names we should be looking for to lead the Ironmen on the court this season ? ... with Coach Morrow at the helm I can see a transition team, pressure the ball, score on turnover type team ... anything special in the half court game for JHS ?

I'm not the best guy for this but can probably help some.
The Ironmen play hard. Pressure defense with times where they'll have trouble scoring enough to win. They are improved and program is trending up for sure. No height as usual but starting lineup not small.
6'1 (maybe 6'2) Cooper Donaldson is a sophomore that will lead the team in scoring several games.
6'1 Carson Spohn will do his share of scoring and is a junior
5'11 Peyton Speakman is a good shooter and will help on the perimeter. He's a junior.
6'1 Bryce Hall returns for his senior season. His strength will help in the post area on defense against bigger players.
6'0 Kendall Neal much like Hall but will have ball in his hands a lot more. He is a junior.
Bench led by 6'0 senior Josh Spires who can score and another big strong kid. Lettered as a freshman and has a lot of court experience. 5''10 Blake McCoy is a great athlete who will see good court time and can guard the quickest guys on the other team (heard he dunked today in the scrimmage).
5'6 Johnny Farley, 6'1 freshman Brice Graham, 5'2 freshman Caleb Wallis (kid can play) will likely round out much of the rest of the rotation.
Sure like the little bit I've seen so far. Maybe Ironman32 can give a little more insight.

Not sure how much more insight I can give, but here I go.
I92, pretty much hit the nail on the head, these kids are playing really hard. Which makes up for some of their deficiencies.
Really not much size, but they do have several football players who are strong to help with the lack of size.
They've been fun to watch so far, Coach Morrow really has these kids believing they can win games.
Look for them to turn some heads and possibly win double digits!!!

Thanks
I92 & I32 ... great "information" ... Coach Morrow KNOWS how to get it done without size as he came through JHS hoops under Coach Ford & Co. ... I see Coach Morrow being able to motivate the I'town boyz to perform at a high level ... any lack of size will be made up for by tenacity on the court ... on ball pressure, a physical style of D similar to what Logan Elm does ... I look forward to see Coach Morrow & his TEAM this season ... thanks again guys for the background info on the Ironmen ...

The Ironmen scrimmaged Paint Valley and the big WVU recruit Swingle. Played without starter Kendall Neal and rotation guy Spires.
Quarter 1 tied 16-16
Qtr 2 PV won 19-16
Qtr 3 Jackson won 16-9
Qtr 4 PV won 16-10
Qtr 5 Jackson won 11-9
Qtr 6 Jackson won 18-12
Swingle impressively never came out and Jackson was goi g deep into their bench a good bit.
Jackson plays their tales off. Fun to watch their effort.
