The Athens Messenger reports that Coach Jeff Skinner, head coach of the Athens Bulldogs, in addition to being named DII Southeast district coach of the year, was recently named as STATE DII coach of the year. Wow!!! Congrats to Coach Skinner!!!

Congrats Coach Skinner, I as I have said time and time again on here, he is a class act. It is good to see that a great coach and person has won this award.

Ironic part of the story is that Athens fired him a few years ago. Reminds me of Joe Garret at Belpre when he was non-renewed in the early 1980's then came back and took them to the state finals (which Coach Garrett just won a state title at Parkersburg Catholic).

Its good to see SEO coaches finally get some well deserved accolades! I have always believed that SEO coaches do the most with the least talent of any group in the state. Congrats to Norm and Jeff for these accomplishments. they are very deserving. I hope this continues in the future.

Mentalist....As far as I know in high school basketball except for a few exceptions with Catholic schools, there is no recruiting...Your post is as assanine as they come..They are Athens' kids not a certain coach's kids, please get a clue.

If you want to get technical, those were skinner's kids, They were his during their elementary days, (coming to his camps) and middle school days (also in camps and skinner's hand picked middle school coaches coaching them. (Even their 8th gr. year when robinson was the coach, the 8th grade coach was left over from skinner.) Robinson had them one year, and McNeal had them 2, Can't really say they were McNeal's kids. Besides, What they did this year and how they played was a complete 180 degree turn compared to McNeal.

As for his "own" kids, skinner has been an active part in the upcoming Juniors and Seniors. Their records speak for themselves. They've both had winning records all through elementary, middle school, Freshman and JV. Why, because they were with real coaches: Fred Gibson, Ron Ricketts, Rick Martin and Skinner.

So Mentalist, get a brain, think before you post.
