With the team being senior loaded I don't see anyone coming up and playing much. I imagine the King boy, Kelley and Hiles will play some as juniors, but with Delotell, Porter, Burchett, Valentine, Bussler, Graham and possibly Hempill all playing as seniors they might not get much game time. As the year winds down I would expect to see them in the mix more to prepare them for the following year.

i have to agree with you on that one about all the seniors playin but i was told from a sorce that trainer may bring like 2 guys up to sit the bench and to go in every once in a while to give the guys a chance to rest.

While that always seems like a good deal to the younger players, I have seen it be a really bad thing in the past. It is an honor to get to dress varsity, but if you don't play you are losing valuable minutes on the floor. I have watched Trainer bring up many players and then just set them on the bench until they finally ask to move back down where they can play. Bottom line is, you get 5 quaters a night. Use them or lose them. Play 3 quarters JV and then you can be subbed in 2 quarters varsity, even if just for 30 seconds, but no JV time and then 2 minutes of varsity doesn't benifit anyone.

i completely agree with that i also do believe with all the seniors this year and how they have their talent they have a great chance at winning soc this year. ive seen some of the players play in summer ball and different things and ive heard hes choosing between like four players to move up to sit varsity would you may have an idea of who they would be?

I think he would wait until he has seen them practice and play before he moves them up, but I will say up front that I want to play my four/five quarters per night instead of sitting on the varsity bench and getting 2 or 3 minutes of play.

Has anyone heard anything? I heard there will not be a freshman team this year at Clay?

It is possible that 2 Freshmen will be starting JV. There are not many kids playing in that group anyway, plus Clay had one starter transfer to West. If a few more kids come out, it's a small chance that there will be a team.

There were two 8th grade boys last year who would have been nice players for Clay. One went to West and the other I hear may not play this year at all. To say either of them would have been starters on this years senior loaded squad would be a stretch.

Read my post rocky, I said start JV, not Varsity.

ONE DID GO TO WEST THE OTHER BOY YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT IS PLAYING AND HAS BEEN GOING TO OPEN GYM AND WEIGHT CONDITIONING. i DONT THINK ANY OF THE FRESHMAN SHOULD PLAY VARSITY THE VARSITY WILL BE IN TROUBLE IF THEY PLAY AS THERE ARE ABOUT 8-9 SENIORS THEN THROW IN A FEW JUNIORS SUCH AS KING HILES AND KELLY THERE ARE ALSO SOME OTHER JUNIORS WHO WOULD TAKE UP SPOTS ON THE ROSTER. hOPE THEY LET THE FRESHMAND AND SOPH PLAY TOGETHER ALL YEAR BECAUSE THEY WILL BE NEEDED THE FOLLOWING YEAR WITH ALL THE SENIORS GRADUATING. THEY DO NOT NEED TO SET OUT OF JV GAMES TO SET ON THE BENCH FOR VARSITY GAMES UNLESS THEY ARE BETTER PLAYERS AND PLAY

Sorry, I misread that. They both would have definetly started JV and may have even dressed Varsity by the end of the year as this years squad will graduate 6 or 7 seniors. Hopefully the boy returns to Clay from West. I think his goal was to play basketball and I don't see that being the school for him to do that. The other player may have a change of heart and play, he is a very good athlete and will have a nice 4 years at Clay.

I agree Buddy, I would not move anyone up to Varsity if they were not going to play at least 4 quarters per night (JV and Varsity). I have seen this in the past at Clay. A boy gets bumped up and gets 5 minutes total time on the floor. Give him his 3 quarters JV at least and then let him see some Varsity time if the situation comes up, but moving up to sit the bench is not beneficial.

i agree with your thoughts rockyraccoon about both players. I hope coach trainer does not drop a lot of juniors down to the jv team who could not make the varsity. I have heard several boys are trying out for the team this year because clay is supposed to be near the top of the SOC w;ith all the seniors on the team. Sounds like there may be some cutting this year out of necessity. Its better to get more than 1 years experience for the future of clay basketball. Coach Compton done a great job last year with the younger group and they have at least 3 boys who could play jv ball.

What about the JV team thats coming in this year, they had a really good group of boys? any thoughts on any of them, how do you think they will play at this next level. Saw alot of them during the summer playing with a few of the varsity players that could play, seemed to be holding their own. I know they lost the hafer boy to west, but they still have schmidt, he was a rebounder and a half, then they still have evans and shaffer, both of those boys are an asset to whatever team they play on. any thoughts?

Schmidt, Evans & Shaffer should start J.V. The Hafer boy did go to West, but they are gaining Jacob Griffin, who is very athletic. And Tony Whitt who is an aggressive rebounder also.

Sounds to me like they should have enough boys for a Freshman team. Looking forward to a winning season from both JV and Varisty this year.

This season should be very interesting with all the seniors playing this year.

Below is Clay's 2010-2011 schedule. If they stay healthy and play up to their potential I see a possible 12 -15 win season for them. One thing I do hate to see again this year is the traveling morning scrimmages the day before and after Thanksgiving, then playing the preview game later that night. IMO, that's just too much. Seems like every year someone gets hurt or sick thru that stretch.

Clay was supposed to hold the Foundation game against Huntington Ross, but from what I hear they couldn't raise the money and this now may be just a scrimmage. Also hear they are only dressing 10 players because the only have 10 uniforms.
