Harrison Martin of Waverly

Harrison Martin who scored his 1,000th H.S. career point earlier in the season returned from injury tonight needing 12 points to pass Adam Shea as the 2nd leading scorer in Waverly Boys Basketball history. With all seniors starting and playing the entire first quarter (Martin, Rod Holdren, Davis Remy, Allen Leatherwood and David Holt) Martin burned the nets for exactly 12 points, 3 coming on a 3 pointer at the buzzer. Not sure that he's ever hit a 3 in his H.S. career, LOL. Martin finished the game with 24 as the Tigers beat Northwest 62-51.

Harrison would probably have ended his career as the all time leading scorer at Waverly had he not missed games due to injury last year and this year. Maybe the Tigers make a long run down tournament trail and he gets there.

Congrats to Harrison and all of Waverly's seniors. Harrison has been a great player but an even better person. They don't come any better. It's been a pleasure watching him play and coaching him the last couple years!

Smurray, I was just texting a co-worker the same message about Harrison becoming the all-time leading scorer. I predicted his fresman year he would do it. IMO, Harrison will go down as one of the most underrated ball players in these parts. He just puts up 20 and 10 every night and brings his lunch pail every day. Every team would be better off with a Harrison Martin

Now for my own trivia, I'm trying to figure out who is #1. My guess is Shoemaker, but I'm probably wrong.

Thanks bbl. Do you know how many Thompson scored. I would also love to know who the Pike County all time leaders are.

Denny Thompson 1967-1970 is the all time leading scorer for Waverly. Denny did this long before the 3 point line was established. What's ironic is Harrison had not made a thee pointer until the shot that beat Adam Shea for the 2nd place all time leading scorer of Waverly. Before the game in the tunnel lining up for senior night I told Harrison to hit a three and make it count. Harrison is also a 4.0 student and a tremendous baseball player along with being a classy kid. This is a kid that has never thrown an elbow and gets beaten up in the paint and never says a word. Proud to know this young man.

Congrats to Harrison great kid.

I believe the #1 scorer in PIke County is Mark Cochenhour. Funny thing is that all the higest scorers in Pike Co played without the 3 pt line. Cochenhour Eastern, Thompson Waverly, Drexel Williams Piketon, Western ? not sure

Hitchbone and Bengalsfan...The Pike County all time leading scorer is Jeremy McLeod from Western. He finished his career with 1975 points.

He actually broke Cocheneurs (sp) record his senior season in a game at Eastern, which was kind of neat becase Mark was there that night.

Thanks and that would answer my question about who is Westerns leading score. However, he did play with the 3 pt line. Question Can someone post how many points the leading scores have?

smurray: great post about a great kid.

From this family in South Webster who has watched Harrison play for 4 years (and when healthy light us up!) we congratulate him in his accomplishments.

Good luck to the Tigers in the tournament. Perhaps all the tough spells during the season will be washed away by a great tournament run.

I assume you all want to the all time boys leader in points which I think is McLeod of Western with 1,975.
But if you count girls it is Marlene Stollings (sp) of Eastern who scored 3,514 points she is still one of the tops in state history. She might be number 1 in the state. Kaylee Helton of Western had over 2,000 in her career.

What was the name of the sharpshooter with the buzz cut who graduated in 1993? I though he would've been real close to 1,000.

Stollings is still #1 overall.

Mark Cochenhour had 1801 career pts. As stated above with no 3pt line. He also scored over 800 in one season

I believe baseball is "his sport" although he was quite a soccer player as well.
