March 12th - Championship Saturday

So much for enjoying a great thing ... It finally appears they have found a way to screw up perhaps the best day of the year when it comes to high school sports.
March 12th
Boys DIV Finals 10:30 & 12:30
*****Will clear the arena*******
Girls DIII REGIONAL 3:00
Boys DIII Final 5:00, 7:00 & 9:00
Every year I can remember, you could go sit at the Convo and watch 5 consecutive championship games ... Now, they are going to throw a D-III girls game in the mix AND clear the Convo after 2 D-IV games that start at 10-freakin-30 in the morning???? That is the most ridiculus thing I have ever heard!!!
Lets say the top 2 teams in the bracket make it to the D-IV final ... Congrats South Webster and Reedsville Eastern - you get to get up at 6:00 A.M., get your boys on a bus, and then play the biggest game of the year while a lot of folks are still eating breakfast.
That's just absolutly stupid.
BTW ... My argument has absolutly nothing to do with paying, I could care less about the paying twice ... It's about TIMING!! 10:30 A.M. for such a big game is just not fair to the either team having to play in it ... Not having all the boys games grouped together is not cool either ... Hell, I'll gladly leave the Convo after each game and come back in and pay - just don't make me leave around 2:00 and have to wait until 5:00 for the next boys game to be played!

If I have looked at this correctly: The winners from the [South Webster (2 seed) & Eastern (1 seed) bracket] have to play March 10th now at 6:15 & 8:00 ... Talk about being put in a tough spot ... The winner of the late game March 10th will have to turn around and play March 12th at 10:30 ... Uh, that's only about 36 hours in between games.
Ouch.

You are correct. South Webster/Notre Dame winner plays Waterford/Eastern Pike winner on Thursday, March 10th at 8:00 and then turns around and plays at 10:30 on Saturday, March 12th.
It is a problem I hope my Jeeps have!

The 3/12 game is now listed at 1:00. I wonder if this changes the "clearing the Convo"?

And to throw another wrinkle,,
IF Eastern (Reedsville) girls advance to the regionals and the boys advance to play in district,,
It is the same night at the same time,, both would play on the 10th at 6:15..
What a way to make people choose which game to go to,,,,,,,

This is so uncool. I have a tradition of taking my kids to championship Saturday and watching non stop action from noonish to around 10 that night. Now, with the chance of a couple of SHL teams playing in the morning, I will go from a long day to a very very long day. (Don't worry, the kids are 16, 25, and 28). lol. I hope there is a change to the schedule that would make more sense.

Well, OHSAA has never been able to figure out neutral sites to make the average fans happy for the teams in the football playoffs and now they're starting to screw up basketball also. What's new ?

State Championship Games start at 10am. The kids will be ready to play no matter what time it's played.

Why not play the Regional girls game at 11am and keep everything else the same as it was?
I guess that is too simple. Plus they couldn't clear the convo.
Girls Regional 11 am Division 4 districts 1 and 3 Division 3 districts 5, 7 and 9.
Much easier schedule!

I know Girls Basketball is a joke to a lot of you, but all other D3 Regional Finals are at 1:30. Would you rather them bump the D4 games to earlier? Or how about, we move the girls to Athens HS, because HS girls don't matter? That probably is what most of you are thinking. Quit crying and be excited that all the games are centrally located instead of spread out to 3 different locations, all at the same time.
District 10-Bowling Green has 4 district championships, all in different locations.
District 9-Canton has 4 district championships, all in different locations.
While D11 and D12 have 3 at one location and a 4th at another.
Napoleon HS hosts a D3 district final and a D4 district final...on different nights. So just keep your complaining up, because it could be a lot worse.

I think the complaining comes from CHANGING something that has been great and has worked for years danicalifornia ... I for one really like girls hoops - I have no problem fitting a girls game into championship Saturday ... But why not 11:00, 1:00, 3:00, 5:00, 7:00, 9:00? And why the need to jam everything into Saturday - they obviously don't have a problem playing on Sunday, there are like 4 D-III boys game being played on the 6th ... Are there any games March 13th?

dani: It is a girls Regional Final and there is no doubt that is a big game. However, I do think that the easiest thing would be to put it at 11:00 and keep the schedule the same. They didn't so it is what it is. I would say the same thing if the girls were scheduled to play at 1,3, 5, 7 and 9 and they put a boys game in the middle of the day and cleared the gym after the first 2.
I don't like the fact that they will clear the gym----and ONE more thing-----Don't Regional games cost more than district games? If I buy a Regional ticket for the girls game and go in at 2:30 do I have to pay more than if I buy a District ticket for the boys game and enter at 2:30? I don't know the answer to this question----but I would love to know the answer! Are regional pre-sale tickets the same price as District tickets at the gate? If I am an Oak Hill girls fan should I buy a District ticket from a friend in Piketon? Just stirring the pot...........

I don't mind paying extra but this is stupid to change something that has worked so well..and why put a girls game in the middle ? Dani, you're right, nobody wants to sit through a boring girls game between the boys games...guess that'll be a good time to go drink a couple beers

lol NormanDale ...
The Cat's Den is a few football fields away if you go around the back of the Convo and cut through by the Physical Plant. I was actually picked up (or should I say kidnapped) by the I-Town Maffia one year and we all went their after an Ironton game ... Very interesting night I must say ... lol

Since the Southeast District folks don't seem to want a person to be able watch a day of great basketball. I for one will not absolutely buy a thing from their concessions while at the Convo. I want it like it was before, go watch the D2's, then right down the row to the D4's. Have separate days for the girls games and do the same thing. I will only attend the one day when my team plays. I hope the Convo and the District loose money big time.
