Never count out a Tom Barrick coached team once the tourney rolls around. He is a master at devising a game plan to win a ball game. Just ask the Top 10 ranked Peebles Indians. The Pirates are playing a lot better ball now than they were in the first meeting of these two teams and I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see the Pirates move on the regionals.

2 of my favorite coaches....but IMO this is a bad matchup for Burg....Ironton has the size and strength to keep Stegman from going crazy and have super quick peremiter players to hault McBee an co.....

Burg needs Fletcher out of the 1st half early with 2 fouls to have a chance IMO.....just like against Oak Hill

I agree with the above. Stegman pretty much had his way against the smaller Indians. Ironton's Carter (33) and Fletcher (19) pretty much beat Meigs by themselves. If the Pirates can get Fletcher in foul trouble it will be a very close game. Also, I believe Ironton is deeper than Peebles so this will also be a big factor IMO.

My prediction: Ironton 52 Wheelersburg 46

I look for another big game out of Stegman, Just another SOC 2 battle for the Pirates, and the Tigers are young I'll take Barrick in this one !

If ironton plays like they did tonight, the Burg will advance. I they bring their "A" game, Ironton by 10-15pts.

The Tigers are young but a lot of the young'uns played a ton last year and all of this year. They are at this point tested and proven IMO.

I could not agree more 77. Barrick is definatly a master come playoff time. This has all the potential to be a great game.

I just hope that Chesapeake doesnt play the same night.Geesh we sat up in the nose bleeds because of their fans taking the lower seats.I know there is no written rule but come on.People should allow the team playing the game to have the "prime" seats. Then move down when your team plays.Btw,Chessy isnt the only fans doing this,Im not starting a war of words with them, its just that they happened to be the ones there tonight.

Over the years down there in the Convo most people have had the courtesy to move, especially when they (Chessy) didn't play till the game after yours. It seems Rudeness is becoming more common nowadays anywhere you go in public.

Speaking of Ironton fans, where were they tonight? They had no student section at all and they had probably one of the worst crowds there tonight.

as for the game, Burg will need to slow down Carter(tough to do). if they can bait him into driving and then step over for the charge, they might be able to hang with them. Don't know who ironton would then have to bring the ball up the court.

I would also venture to guess that in the loss at ironton, Barrick didn't show ironton alot of offensive sets.

This should ba classic Burg-Ironton matchup. they met last in the tourney in 2006 in the regional final, a game the Burg had to hang on to win. The other memorable matchup would have to be in the sectional final in 1982 at portsmouth HS. Burg won 45-44 in double OT on a Todd Staker put back of a Brad Walke airball. As the ball was hitting the square, the buzzer was going off and then it banked in. Burg went onto the state semi-finals that year.

From what I could see setting on the opposite side that had to be one of the smallest Ironton crowds I have ever seen. And Chesapeake was only setting in the spot where their sign was, so I don't see any problem with that. We gave up our seats and moved to the upper level so Meigs fans could have them.

Look for burg to be very, very physical with the younger weaker sophmores from ironton . They have showed a tendency to get very emotional when things don't go there way just imaturity but still it's a weakness I see barrick exploiting . I'll take burg by 4 in a slobber knocker of a game burg will grind a win out.
