ALL-SOUTHEAST DISTRICT TEAMS (all divisions)

Post by jimmy chipwood »

These selections are based off of statistics, team success, team strength of schedule (who you were scoring against), and first hand observation as I saw 11 of these players play at least one game. Also, performances in big games and consistency played a part in the selection process. I will discuss some of the decisions as I get some more free time today. The teams are not necessarily in order especially the 2nd/3rd Teams.

Anybody from Adams/Brown County want to estimate what Lawson averaged in regards to rebounds/assist/steals? I never found any numbers on him but would guess that he was probably around 7-8 rebs/3-4 assists/2 steals? Exactly how many games did he miss early this year? One thing that stands out is Eastern Brown only averaged 56.74 ppg and Lawson scored 17.8. That's over 31% of the teams scoring.

I did not watch Courts play so I cant comment on him but Jake Daniels from Peebles deserved a mention on this list somewhere. Im not claiming you should have stuck him on the first team but some mention would have been nice, I already felt the AP disrespected his season by putting him on the 3rd team right beside someone who averaged 9ppg and another who spent a good portion on the season on the JV squad. I suppose that is what happens when you only play two years of varsity and one is in the shadow of players like Blake Justice and when the closest AP affiliated source, whose only exposure to his game before the voting was maybe a district semi in which he fought foul trouble and still managed 7pts/7rebs/3blks/3stls in a quarter and a half of play, is in what, Gallipolis? I find it impressvie that he was still able to score nearly 600pts and grab 400rebs with only one of those two years being one in which he was in a leadership position. He is also young enough(2 months younger than junior Trent Arey and over a year younger than McKinley/Kretzer/etc.) to potentially reclassify if it was possible to obtain another year of eligibility. On the season he averaged over 15ppg, 11rpg, 3blkpg, 60+% from the field. He was all league, D14 Second team, 1st team all-area(ledger independent), picked for the District All-Star game, and broke multiple school defensive records(most rebounds/blocks in a game, 24 and 8 respectively). He captained a team which returned only one other player from last year's varsity squad to 17 wins, a county championship, a sectional championship, and a district runner up finish. They eventually lost to a team that was ranked 4th in the state by the AP in a game which he nearly had a triple double. Portsmouth Daily Times reported 24pts(42% of their offense), 8rebs, 8blks(tied his own school record) for the game. Also faired pretty well in head to head matchups with some of the players listed. I guess the biggest reward for his hard work this season will be the oppurtunity to play basketball at the next level. Im thinking Kelly Copeland was the last Peebles pure big man to play college ball. Im not including Seth Smalley or Adam Weber because they both played more of a small forward role in college if im not mistaken at Kentucky Christian and Wilmington respectively. Some 35-40 colleges have shown serious interest. I'll get off my soapbox now... :122245. Congrats to everyone who was recognized. It has been fun traveling around watching the majority of you play this season.

TribeManiac10, so out of curiousity where would you put him on the teams above? Who would you bump down or off? All 32 candidates were awesome players but decisions have to be made.

I completely understand. I wouldnt bump anyone, just would have added him in the honorable mention. I noticed you had 5 spots for every team but 4 for the last slot.

Yes, I stopped at 4 because if I didnt I had about 4-5 guys that were all deserving. I believe my last cut was McBee (19ppg, 5apg, 6rpg on Minfords 14-7 team).

Nice list of players not a big difference in talent 1-19 all are good players. Maybe we can take those six underclassmen on your list and put them all on the same team next year so we in SEO can have a chance to win a state title.

:) Preferably on a D3 or D4 squad. Im not sure even an all star team this season would have beat Dunbar in D2. All 5 of their starters had division 1 looks/offers. Move them all to Notre Dame so we can have our own private school put out teams that perennially abuse the system like Harvest Prep.
