Warren Warriors

Post by Bigbadbluefan »

I don't think I have ever seen a TEAM like the 2012-13 Warren squad. They are the perfect example of a TEAM. Together Everyone Achieves More. Their players never seem to get down and their emotions are almost always positive. If French has ever shown "frustration" in his appearance on the floor, I haven't seen it. Patton is the best kept secret in SE Ohio, and the Hall kid is growing up right in front of everyone in attendance. What's even more impressive is those 3 have more years to come. Leffingwell has added a BIG in the paint, and Yabs is doing his "job". The bench is solid and the JV players that dress (IMO), could step in and play with most SE Ohio varsity teams. I give most of the "basketball" credit to the coach, but the parents of these young men should be noticed as well. Great group of kids, and it all starts at home!! Go Warriors, good luck in the tournament!

Great assessment Bigbluefan. I have not seen one time when these kids have got frustrated at one another. Even when Danny, who started part of the year, went to the bench and Dylan started. Now Danny is coming off the bench and playing his role and although he might be personnally frustrated he is not starting, he is not showing it. He is doing what his coach is telling him is best for the team!! This has to be a testament to the kids knowing that they can only win as a team. I know the coaches are preaching it and as you said it shows. I thought they played together last year as a team also and maybe that experience has carried overto this years team. Great time to be a Warrior fan!! Undefeated JV and #12 ranked DII Varsity!! GO BLUE!!

I agree that this group of boys are the perfect example of a true team. They seem to be a close knit group on and off the court. I agree with earlier posts and also want to commend Pannell for being an unselfish and loyal team leader. It has to be difficult to be shifted out of a roll he worked hard to obtain, especially when it doesn’t appear to be about his performance on the court. From the stands (my perception) it seems to be a coaching decision based on the bigs leaning more toward being perimeter players, which left a hole in the paint that Leffingwell was able to fill. I hope Coach Maddox has communicated to Pannell his value to the team. His energy and intensity, as witnessed in the Logan game and others, brings a much needed spark to the floor. I am curious though, why he no longer goes to center court before the game with Yabs, does not starting negate a captain’s position as well (not judging, just noticed and curious)? From top to bottom, this Warrior team is a class act, full of tremendous talent and character. While I don't have a dog in the fight, it's my pleasure to watch these guys play! Here’s hoping they make it all the way this season!

Great post benchwarmer50. I think your assessment of why Leffingwell is starting is spot on. With the way he performs when he comes in, and knowing coach Maddox, I would assume his role and his needed leadership has been communicated. I will ask about the captain comment. Guess I did not notice that. GO WARRIORS!!

With one stater and two kids with a lot of varsity playing time last year, this group has molded into a TEAM. Everybody plays their role and back up each other. Individually talented 4sure but this team is on a mission and the ONLY way they accomplish that goal of a District title is a team effort.
I believe they got the memo! Great job guys!

Ps I wanna give a shout out to those past Warrior teams. With out players like Cunningham, Venham, Fivecoat, Ward, Hastie, and Majoy there wouldn't be a Warrior program. Although they never took that step over into the "promise land" they 4sure laid the foundation for the success today. I'm sure as a 6th grader French was pretending to be Cuningham and hitting that game winning shot. Or Patton pretending to be Craig Call throwing down a thunder dunk.
Great job Warrior Nation.

Go Big Blu
