Re: Jackson Summer League
We all know summer ball doesn't mean much but should be interesting to see how some programs are doing with their new coaches just getting started.
Re: Jackson Summer League
We get our first look at the 2013/14 Oaks tonight. I was told they will play Gallia Academy, Piketon and South Gallia. Ready for some hoops!

I was told Piketon looked pretty good. Went 3-0 beating Meigs, Oak Hill and Gallia.
Re: Jackson Summer League
Sounds like a good and competitive league. Glad to see Jackson is using that awesome facility! What do they have 5 or 6 courts to play on at once?

Jimmy,
I really don't think we looked good last night. We will have to learn the definition of DEFENSE. The act of defending against attack from an opponent....The act of keeping the opposition from scoring! Geez...we can't out score everyone. Other than that I was impressed by a couple of kids that I'm counting on to step up this season.

I went just to see how some of the teams looked. Here is my evaluation from what I saw last night:
Piketon- Did some nice things and looked to be one of the better teams there.
Oak Hill- Looked young to me and appeared that they didn't have their full varsity team there?
Meigs- Looked to have taken leaps from the past 2 years and will be much better this year. 1 of the better teams there.
Gallia- They have nice size but they looked very young as well. I think they could be good the next couple of years
River Valley- I like the enthusiasm of the staff which is all new. They were young as well and missing a few varsity kids
Southern- Another team that looked young but had a couple of nice players. Never count them out
South Gallia- Another young team with good guard play but struggled in the paint some
Minford- Looked pretty strong and I would guess they had some upperclassmen there but not sure?
NY- I didn't watch them much but they looked pretty good for the few minutes I watched
Jackson- They were really young and struggled. It will be another long year for the Ironmen IMHO
Symmes Valley- Definitely one of the better teams in the league and I look for them to have a good season.
Overall it looked like most of the teams used this as an opportunity to get playing time to develop younger players which is a good idea. It's difficult to say for sure how each teams season will go based on a summer league like this. I know coaches are just glad to have kids in the gym to work with sometimes. Games were certainly officiated like "summer ball" instead of a regular HS game with less calls and more physicality.
Things could be totally different in a week so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. LOL
Re: Jackson Summer League
The Oaks went 2 for 3. Wins against Gallia Academy and South Gallia. Lost to Piketon. The previous posts descriptions of the teams seems spot on from what I saw and talking about the physicality of summer basketball is a nice way of saying its down right dangerous.
Re: Jackson Summer League
The Oaks will be heading to Jackson tonight for week two of summer hoops. A couple of the kids were at the beach last week so I am looking forward to seeing them play for the first time this summer. First game at 5:45.
