Portsmouth has moved up to 8th on the all-time wins list provided by the OHSAA. The Trojans had 1,381 wins going into this season. Other SE teams: Racine Southern is 10th with 1,353, while Marietta comes in 20th with 1,270, and Peebles is 25th with 1,182. The Trojans currently stand at 14-5, which all-time amasses to a 1,395-743 record. Hopefully Portsmouth can get 5 more victories this season to get to that coveted 1,400 mark. GO TROJANS!!!

… such a great great basketball tradition trojandave … I am in awe every time I see the trophy case at PHS … the names associated with Trojan basketball - it's a who's who of not only HS hoops but athletics on the big stage in all sports as well … then to have you Dave as a true "keeper" of the history of Portsmouth basketball and I actually know you as a friend makes it that much more special imo … great stuff trojandave …

Portsmouth has more sectional titles than Vinton Co has years of existence. Lol

pfloyd: Thanks for the kind words......and you are very right in that I take great pride in preserving our tradition. For anyone interested in the history of Portsmouth Trojans basketball, go to www.trojanhoops.org. for a smorgasboard of historical info about Trojan basketball. Website creator Matt Payton asked me to do the history articles, and I was more than happy to do them. It's taken a lot of work, but it has been well worth the time. A lot of microfiche, that's for sure!!

With Saturday's 60-46 win over Coal Grove in the D3 district semifinals, Portsmouth High School now needs 1 more win to record the 1,400th victory in school history (1,399-744). Portsmouth plays Chesapeake in Saturday's D3 district championship. The Trojans will also be going for the 37th district championship in school history. The 36 previous titles is a SE district best, twice as many as second place Wheelersburg (18).

One thing for sure there is nothing humble about Portsmouth people on here. However, it does get old! I respect a proud tradition but it is constant. ENOUGH!
