There will be some that don't like this hire. Some in the Trimble community that feel they should have hired from within. I feel it's better to hire outside mainly because these hires have no ties to board members, teachers no family in town, so no pressure to play kids with a certain name. Phil Faires would be an exception. As with all new hires either from within or outside there will be people unhappy but with Trimble being DIV and the talent they have coming back toss in Howie Caldwell and I think they will get to that next level and into the regionals.

I hope this works out well for Howie and the Tomcats. There will be a period of "adjustment" I'm sure....

Excellent fit for Trimble. The kids from Glouster are tough hard nosed kids and I think Howie will get the very best out of them.

I just read the article on the hiring of Caldwell. Some Trimble folk weren't too happy.

After reading the article and learning those that are opposed of the hiring of Coach Caldwell it is not shocking that the previous coaches parents are complaining. I know for a fact of several complaints against coach Moore, meetings were held with the AD and the principle and these complaints had nothing to do with playing time! They were related to statements and actions of coach Moore. It sounds as though the complaints may have fell on deaf ears since there is no record of them. At any rate I can ASSURE you the majority of TOMCAT faithful love and support the new hire. Good Luck coach Caldwell!!!!

The article was interesting to say the least. I hate to comment on threads like these because I usually like the old coach and I hate to see anyone get fired or not retain their job. And I liked Curt Moore, I think he's a pretty good guy and he knows the game of basketball.

I also like coach Caldwell and have for many years.

The only thing I question is some of the remarks made about "having to hire from within" ... "having to hire a former Tomcat".

If you look around at other schools, there are tons of coaches who are not an alumni of that school. I understand the whole pride thing, but a good coach is a good coach no matter where he or she is from.

Two things to keep in mind here:

First, the public, including family members of a coach as in this case, can say pretty much what ever they choose in a board meeting. The board and administration are bound contractually and by the law and essentially can not respond with any detail. So you essentially get "one side of the story" so to speak. Secondly, and most importantly, this should be about the student athletes at Trimble. Not about Curt Moore or Howie Caldwell, or the board, or administration, or Mr. Moore's mom, or his aunt. It is about what is best for the kids.

Just curious why Howie chose to go to Trimble. Why not just hire the JV coach?

We'll this Tomcat Guy loves the new hire, I've been hearing nothing but complaints about the old coach for the past few years, it's about time Trimble went in a different direction

I was just curious why Trimble was appealing to Coach Caldwell. According to the previous post it seems as though the JV coach will be running the show.

No way he drives to Trimble everyday to coach JV
