Great job Pirates. One of the better defensive games I've seen out of the Burg in a long time. ZT has some nice athletes but Burg kept them in check most of the night. ZT made there run right before the half when Burg had to sit Miller and Spradlin because of fouls.
Great job Dylan. Way to take charge as a Senior should in the 4th qtr.
Only three Burg players scored (Miller-18, Spradlin-17 and Widdig-15) but if that's all it takes, that's all it takes. Jacob was on fire in the first half and Widdig and Miller took over the 2nd half.
Also, No. 3 for ZT can flat out shoot. he kept ZT in this game with some big three's down the stretch.
Pirates move on to the Convo for the first time since 2010???? I think.

First time since 2011. I am guessing ZTs coach is wishing he had the 2 minutes he held the ball back.
Great job Pirates!

Not really an upset. The SOC is much stronger than the SVC.

You are probably right. Burg beat Huntington and Zane Trace and Minford beat Unioto. The SOCII has done well so far in the tourney.

Not the first time Burg has knocked out a 1 or 2 seed in the tourney. I think ZT took Burg a little to lightly and before they knew it they were beat.
Even though burg was outsized, they took it right at ZT all night and made some huge shots.

ZT did not even try to use their size advantage. I don't remember once when they tried to post up and play inside out.

The SVC only had three decent teams. Plus, Zane Trace played nobody non-league.

I thought the same thing. No. 30 for them had a considerable size advantage over Dylan but still only took maybe at most 2-3 shots in the paint.
No. 15, Hall I think could leap out of the gym but didn't really use his size either. He is only a Sophomore so he will be tough the next two years.
I think Ater had a great game plan and the boys executed it. They moved the ball around on offense, set some screens and got the shooters open shots. Dylan was just a beast in the 4th qtr and he is very capable of doing that against anyone.

Wheelersburg won this game with execution and playing great as a team. Even though only 3 players scored the team effort was fun to watch. Everyone seemed to know and buy-in to their role.
Coach Ater--- tip of the hat to you. 5 for 5 in sectional championships as a head coach. This one was probably your best!
Zane Trace played a great 3rd quarter and took the momentum only to hold the ball up 1 for the last two minutes only to turn it over before getting a shot with 3 seconds left. Have no idea why the obviously more talented team would shorten the game. Mystifying
SOC > SVC in 2014.

Congrats to Wheelersburg, their kids just fought harder at the end. Miller played exceptionally better than I had seen him play earlier in the year.
ZT made mistakes where they did not want to make mistakes. Didnt want to let Miller get inside and didnt want to leave Spradlin...and thats just what they did.
For those of you asking, ZT tried to get the ball inside but the bigs lost the ball a few times...plus their "Bigs" arent exceptionally strong inside they both like to play face up perimiter style.
ZT guards got in foul trouble early and I bet thats why Alley held the ball going into the fourth in a two point game. Didnt want to risk Pierce picking up another foul and having to sit as he was really their only offensive production.

Like I said in the sectional thread...
Portsmouth should have been the 2 seed...
Coaches got what they asked for in this one, and it bit them.
Congrats Burg!
SOC!

Why would Zane Trace's coach be on the hot seat? How many sectional titles does he have during his time at ZT? How many district finals appearances?
A LOT more than Gary Kellough ever had at ZT or any of the more recent predecessors of Coach Alley.
I watched the game vs the Burg...and the ZT kids just didnt bring their game...the Coach cant play the game
