Waverly 45 West 34 Final
Waverly 45 West 34 Final
West lead 6-5 after one
West lead 20-16 at halftime
West lead 32-30 after three
Senior night at the Downtown Arena and Waverly came out in a funk of some sort. It took a little over 3 quarters to get out of it.
Tigers took a 1 point lead with 5:52 to play at 35-34 when Junior Landon Hoover sparked the fire. Hoover nailed a three with 4:44 to play to put the Tigers up 38-34 and then connected on another with 4:00 to play to extend the Tiger lead to 41-34. West would fail to score the rest the way while Waverly connected on 4-6 FT's in the final 4:00. A very ugly game Waverly was able to overcome.
WAVERLY SCORING
Landon Hoover 9 (two huge threes in the 4th)
Easton Wolfe 7 (5 early 4th)
Cobe Marquez 6
Ethan Adrian 6
Trevor Penrod 6 (two threes)
Ethan Dunn 4
Cody Remington 2
Jake Reed 2
Ethan Crabtee 1
Waverly was 4-4 FT's in the first half and 5-11 in the 2nd half
WEST SCORING
LT Maynard 11 (8 in the 2nd quarter)
Jordan Frasure 9
Gabe Skaggs 8 (6 in the 2nd quarter)
Josh Berry 4
Brandon Moore 2
West was 2-2 FT's in the first half and 0-1 in the 2nd half
Waverly finishes the regulaer season 16-6 and sets their eyes on the Jackson Ironmen for round 2 (I think they had their minds on the Ironmen tonight)

Re: Waverly 45 West 34 Final
This game started out as a football game on hardwood until the official pulled both teams together and let them know this was wood not grass they was playing on. If these officials tonight was the same ones from the beast of the southeast they would be drawing disability because of the carpel tunnel they would have gotten from throwing T's

It seems like there have been several times late in the season where there has been discussion about the officials controlling the game/physical play/Ts or flagrant fouls....all involving Waverly
Re: Waverly 45 West 34 Final
Waverly plays very fast with high intensity pressure. There was some early chirpiness taking place and these officials tonight knew how to handle it. Nothing unusual, so don't read into it something about Waverly playing rough or dirty. No players were in danger of flagrant fouls or T's.4thgoal wrote: Fri Feb 16, 2018 10:40 pm It seems like there have been several times late in the season where there has been discussion about the officials controlling the game/physical play/Ts or flagrant fouls....all involving Waverly
Re: Waverly 45 West 34 Final
No one said Howell didn't play. He didn't find his way into the scoring column. Waverly went without Howell scoring, Reed not hitting any threes, played terrible for 26 minutes and still won by 11. For 3 quarters we thought they were going down tonight. But, they fought back and never quit. There has not been any quit in these guys this year.
Re: Waverly 45 West 34 Final
Howell played he just didn't score any. He didn't get very many good looks at all. The very few he did get rimmed out. No hard fouls tonight. No T's! Just a very lackadaisical game by Waverly. I believe they were looking ahead to their tournamentgame. Could have bit them in the butt, however they played better in the 4th quarter and were able to pull out the win!
Re: Waverly 45 West 34 Final
If those stats are correct West shot 3 free throws for the game? With the way Waverly plays that doesn't add up

Re: Waverly 45 West 34 Final
Waverly did not play with the aggressiveness Friday night they need to make a tournament run. Didn't realize West only shot 3 free throws. Tells a lot about how hard they were playing. Better turn it up or we will be one and done.

Re: Waverly 45 West 34 Final
I'm just gonna blame the lack of intensity to the fact this game had no meaning. Sure you want to win every game, but if Waverly lost, still third in the SOCII and same seed in the sectional.
