Region 15 in Athens —— Tuesday 3/13

6:15 — #8 Berlin Hiland (21-5) vs Fairfield Christian Academy (12-14)

8:00 — Coal Grove (19-5) vs Peebles (20-5)

Winners Advance to The Regional Final on Friday 3/16 at 7:00 in The Convocation Center — Athens, Ohio

Last year the Programs at The Regional level were not comparable to the District Programs.

Remember The Regional is run by The State and is sort of like their Sectional —- they do not give medals to individuals after the Regional Final. They give Trophies to the 2 teams — Regional Runner-up And Regional Champion Trophies. The programs last year had small pictures of each team that qualified for The Regional State wide. It was nice to have all 16 team photos but they weren’t large enough to make any distinctions.

I will try and take photos of Hiland and FCA from the Program tonight.

The winner of our Regional (Region 15) gets the honor of opening The State Tournament on Thursday 3/22 at 10:45.

They will play the winner of Region 13 which is being held in The Canton Memorial Fieldhouse.

Region 13: Tuesday 3/13

6:15 — Rittman (21-4) vs #9 Willoughby Cornerstone Christian (18-7)
8:00 — #1 Mansfield St Peters (26-0) vs East Canton (19-7)

Winners advance to The Regional Final on Friday 3/16 at 7:00 in Canton

The other 2 Regionals are also being held tonight and the winners of those 2 Regions (Region 14 and Region 16) will meet in The State Semifinals on Thursday 3/22 at 2:00.

Region 14: Tuesday 3/13 at Bowling Green State University

6:15 — Pandora Gilboa (24-1) vs Sycamore Mohawk (19-6)

8:00 — Convoy Crestview (22-3) vs Toledo Maumee Valley Country Day (20-5)

Winners advance To The Regional Final on Friday 3/16 at 7:00 at Bowling Green


Region 16: Tuesday 3/13 at Kettering Fairmont HS (split sessions denoted by starting times being 2 hours 30 minutes apart)

5:30 — #10 Springfield Catholic Central (23-3) vs Maria Stein Marion Local (21-4)

8:00 — Russia (16-8) vs #4 Fort Loramie (24-2)

Winners advance to The Regional Final at Kettering Fairmont HS on Friday 3/16 at 7:00

The First Game tonight between (12-14) Fairfield Christian Academy (FCA) and 8th ranked (21-5) Berlin Hiland is definitely a David vs Goliath contest

FCA was the 7 seed in the Central District. Their Tournament trail is as follows:

55-42 v 13 seed Madison Christian
67-51 v 14 seed Cardington Lincoln
Districts
51-48 v 1 seed Fisher Catholic
47-34 v 5 seed Tree of Life.

There were 18 Division 4 teams in The Central District all of which played for 1 District Championship.

Berlin Hiland was the 2 seed in the East District. Their Tournament Trail is as follows:

67-24 v 16 seed Newcomerstown
69-43 v 11 seed Shadyside
Districts
44-36 v 4 seed Malvern
42-29 v 3 seed River

There were 16 Division 4 Teams in the East District all of which played for 1 District Championship

Our District has 21 Division 4 teams and our teams played for 2 District Championships

Crestview, Russia, Loramie, MS Marion Local, Hiland...great programs. Seems like they are all playing deep in the tourney year in and year out

The best D4 Regional remaining in my opinion.

Mansfield St. Peters has been the #1 team for most of the season, deservedly so. Cornerstone Christian is the only private school that resembles Harvest Prep / Wellington etc that did NOT get moved up. Why? Because they have a base enrollment of 44, but a multiplier of 42.... which is one of the highest multiplier used in D4 when compared to actual enrollment #'s.

Cornerstone also faces teams like: St. Edwards, Cleveland Central Catholic, St. Ignatius, Solon, Lutheran East, Mentor, VASJ, etc that are massive basketball powerhouses and many of them D1 or D2. While competitive balance seems to have helped most D4 schools play on a more level playing field, this team seemed to still get through the loophole. Cornerstone Christian is, in my opinion, the massive favorite to win the D4 State title and whoever comes out of Region 15 will be playing against a powerhouse.

Thanks Trojandave! South Webster learned about Russia (Rooshie) and Houston (Howston) in 2004. It was an awakening indeed.

I will be doing updates tonight of both games. And if ANYONE has a score from the other Regions then please post it on this thread. My goal is to have all of the D4 Regional Finals accounted for by the end of the evening and then to continue this thread on Friday Night.

Any idea of radio coverage for both games...he said with smile.

I’m not sure about radio for either.

My Whiteoak boys met the Russians in the final 4 of 2002. They led them by 11 at half but their 6’8 kid figured things out and Whiteoak realized where they were a bit. Whiteoak has no player in the rotation over 6’2 that magical year.
