Athens @ Meigs 1/4
Athens is coming into this one at 6-2 having won their last 6 after dropping their 1st 2 to Gallia Academy and Waverly. Meigs seems to be clicking after a win against Morgan and an OT loss to Whitehall at Marietta College this past weekend. Thoughts???
Re: Athens @ Meigs 1/4
Athens a little too experienced and Meigs a little too inexperienced to combat the zone

Meigs 45

Wonder if Meigs still uses that 1-3-1 Zone? I think Athens needs to be most leery of Baer. Heard he dropped 22 which included 6 3s against Whitehall.

They’d be negligent to not focus on himVisionQuest wrote: ↑Mon Dec 31, 2018 11:14 amWonder if Meigs still uses that 1-3-1 Zone? I think Athens needs to be most leery of Baer. Heard he dropped 22 which included 6 3s against Whitehall.
Re: Athens @ Meigs 1/4
Athens is only giving up around 44 ppg defensively through 8 games - Coach Cozart's 3-2 trapping zone gives teams fits ... the length with Chubb in the middle on the front end makes it difficult to move the ball side to side ... helps to dictate the pace of the game from the defensive end ... this one is on the road for AHS always difficult to win on the road in any league ... the Bulldogs are getting healthy again - Hynes is finally getting over the back injury he sustained early in the season ... a healthy Hynes on the blocks gives AHS a BIG weapon inside which will open the outside up as well - it's no secret that the Bulldog's strength is in it's bigs Hynes/Chubb/Butcher ...

I don’t think Meigs can do anything to beat Athens defensively....question is can others step up to beat Athens's zone. They won’t let Baer get much easy. Cleland and Bartrum will have to be big imo for the upset

Re: Athens @ Meigs 1/4
I know Athens seemed caught off guard and “stymied” last year when the Vikings rolled out the 1-3-1 in Overtime at the Sectionals. The NY Buckeyes were using it earlier this year also against the Bulldogs and it seemed to me Athens didn’t know how to react against it. Hopefully Athens will be prepared for the 1-3-1 if Meigs or any other team decides to use it against the Bulldogs.
Re: Athens @ Meigs 1/4
I think Weston Baer is good enough to get his pts, I just don't think Meigs will be able to play well enough inside against the Bulldogs. Being at home could make it very interesting though.

Athens hasn’t played since December 22nd at New Lex. Meigs coming off 2 good games this past weekend. Who benefits most? Athens in getting healed up or Meigs having the momentum and seemingly firing on all cylinders. Will Athens be rusty or ready to play? Cleland boy sounds like he is becoming a main scorer along with Baer. He is only a Freshman? A lot of questions to be answered come Friday night.

Re: Athens @ Meigs 1/4
Meigs has a new coach.
The 1-3-1 was kind of a coach Frye thing.
But that doesn't mean they still don't run it. Idk

I don’t buy that Meigs is firing on all cylinders but if Cleland keeps stepping up big on the points...that’s another factor for defenses.
I do t think this is a good match up....too much Athens size and experience

Re: Athens @ Meigs 1/4
I agree it was more of a Ed Frye thing. I saw them earlier in the year at Rio Grande against Oak Hill, I don't remember them using it at all. Depending on whoever they were playing, it was sometimes pretty effective. I know it was just I game, but I think they would probably have been better off using some sort of zone, rather than pressing full court, and not only getting in foul trouble, but getting beat all night long for layup after layup. Meigs has some good athletes, I just cant see them matching up very well with Athens size inside. As someone said earlier, they have played some pretty good teams, and being at home, it might be interesting.

Meigs schedule has been brutal thus far for a D3 school.
Close game through 3 1/2 quarters

I haven't been following them lately, but Is Bartrum the new basketball coach at Meigs? Or did they lose their mind and hire someone else?itsme wrote: ↑Wed Jan 02, 2019 3:02 pmAs of now they are a average team Not even .500 Hopefully they will get betterRaider6309 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 01, 2019 2:23 pmYes it is.
