1/24 Alexander (11-3) at Athens (10-4) Backyard Brawl

Post by Raider6309 »

This is always a slug fest between two rivals. Alexander won the first meeting 50-42. Was tied 36-36 going into the 4th. Alexander up 44-42 with 1 minute to go before Alexander pulled away at the end.
Thoughts?

Both have non league games on Tuesday. Alexander at Jackson. Athens at Marietta

better get to gym early if you want a seat next Friday

Athens at Marietta Tues
Alex at Jackson Tues

No matter what, when Athens plays Alex, the Dogs will be 1 game back in the Ohio standings

Called Vegas
The mob bosses are saying

If they win at Jackson it jumps to -5

If Alexander could hold the event I just feel Athens will be able to as well.

I don’t think beating Jackson would have a single thing to do with Alex at Athens 3 days later

I believe if Alex loses to Jackson they will fare a decent bit better at Athens on Friday than if they were to win at Jackson.

IF Alex loses at Jackson:

Alexander 67
Athens 59

If Alexander wins at Jackson

Athens 63
Alexander 59

With Alexander you have to hit your shots outside the paint. Alexander has the best paint defender in the area

Going to be an interesting matchup ... Alexander has the luxury to have 6-10 Terry floating in the paint which causes lots of problems unless Terry spends more time on the bench that on the floor - Terry did not get in foul trouble vs Eastern Brown stayed on the floor - EB which IS strong in the paint with its athleticism could not get points down low with the big man in there ... Athens does not seem to shoot the 3 ball "a lot" last night only 11 from behind the arc, they did not shoot the 3 ball well (2/11) BUT the Bulldogs got into the paint for 48 buckets in the paint vs Warren - no 6-10 in the paint for Warren ... Athens can shoot the midrange jumper - again 6-10 in the paint changes THAT shot as well ... Alexander has 2 deep threats in Kearns and D'Augustino - I see Athens needing to take ONE of those 2 deep threats out - limiting their shots on the perimeter - to have a chance ... Alexander IF they get the lead will - just like in football - limit the offensive opportunities for the Bulldogs by taking their 1+ minutes per trip on offense before putting up a shot ... either way pfloyd will be in the cheap seats for this one at McAfee Gymnasium ...

When Athens played Alexander in rd 1 it was a little awkward. Butcher we thought was suspended, but then he wasnt. I think he even missed the previous game & not sure how much practice time was spent with the team during that span. The big fella is not afraid to operate in the paint, even with Terry lurking. That matchup will be fun to watch.

He, and the team, are completely different now than when they first played in The Alley. With so many seniors to replace, Athens was a team with a lot of growth potential heading into the 2019/2020 season. They are just now beginning to reach potential.

Should be a lot of fun next Friday night.
