Unioto 55
Miami Trace 41 a final

BIG game for the opening weekend between 2 Preseason Elite 8 teams Unioto vs Miami Trace ... MT coming off of an opening night loss to Western Brown 47-53 trying to keep from starting the 2023-24 campaign at 0-2 & the U with their first game of the young season ... in the game of basketball the goal is to score points , ideally everyone on each team contributes - some more than others - but everyone dents the napkin stat book ... in the opening 2 quarters neither team lived up to that mantra BUT the some more than others DID hold true ... in the first qtr of action Unioto's senior shooting guard Zeke Schobelock knocked down 13 points ... after Blake Hoops went 1/2 from the FT line Schobelock accounted for the next 11 points with a transition bucket for 2, followed by 3 straight deep balls ... a pair of KB Perkins FTs ... and ended with Schobelock's 2nd transition basket at the rim ... the Panthers of MT had no real answer - nothing on defense to stop the Schobelock aerial attack & not much offensively to answer ... for MT , 3 fgs in the quarter - one each by Coleman May, Brody Armstrong, and 6-7 Adam Guthrie ... Grant Guess sprinkled in 3/4 from the charity stripe ... neither team handled the ball well in the opening period as the Shermans turned it over 6 times and the Panthers 5 ... Unioto 16 Miami Trace 9 after 1 ... the 2nd quarter was more of the same, Schobelock adding 6 more points (19 for the half) on his 4th triple, his 3rd transition bucket ... offensive help coming from KB Perkins & off the bench Caden Cutright each with a 2 pointer in the books ... Trace if nothing else was consistent with 3 more fgs in the 2nd, Bryson Osborne with 2 midrange jumpers (4pts) and Grant Guess adding his first fg of the game on a drive to the rim ... MT turnovers (5 in the qtr) attributed to another transition bucket by the U ... Unioto cleaned up the ballhandling in the 2nd giving away the ball only 3 times in the second period ... Unioto 26 Miami Trace 16 at the half ... Both teams went deep into their benches with Miami Trace playing 10 and Unioto with 8 in the rotation ... just not much offense by either team ... the U looking like it was the opening game of the season - a little too much trying instead "just playing the game" , Miami Trace unable to get comfortable offensively while struggling to find Schobelock when on the defensive end ... the 3rd quarter MT face guarded Schobelock - holding Zeke S in the gym with no treys but still putting up 4 points ( his 4th transition bucket and a pair of FTs) ... the offensive slack was picked up by sophomore PG Blake Fitch... Fitch got into the paint for 8 points with 3 fgs and 2 FTs , KB Perkins continued his consistency in the paint with a putback bucket and a pair of free throws (4pts) ... Miami Trace continued to try to figure out what it wanted to do offensively - go inside to 6-7 Guthrie? score from the perimeter? drive and dish/kick it out? the result - Guthrie with 2 fgs in the paint/ Osborne added a three pointer and 2/2 from the line ... 7 more MT turnovers in the 3rd to the U's 0 ... in the end MT lost ground, losing the qtr. 9-17 ... Unioto 43 Miami Trace 25 after 3 ... the final quarter saw Unioto go the final 8 minutes without a field goal ... 12/16 from the line ... Miami Trace got an offense shot in the arm off the bench from Skye Salyers - 10 points on a pair of deuces and 2 three balls ... Guess and May added a 2 pointer each and Guthrie 2 pts from the line ... too little too late ... 4 more turnovers by MT (21 for the game) ... the U took care of the ball after the opening quarter's 6 TOs - only 5 more in the final 3 periods ... Unioto 55 Miami Trace 41 a final ...

An ugly win is better than a pretty loss to start the season lol

The positive is that the Tanks won with only three guys really scoring and none of them being a Hoops. They combined to average 17 a game last year, so even just hitting that average and this season will be very successful.

Good scheduling to start the season, as next weekend they go to Zane Trace and then play Fairland at Shawnee State. A good test to start the year.

... absolutely daniC ! if your the U - an ugly W is a good thing - for all of the reasons you mentioned - 55 points without scoring from at least 2-3 more players who will be in or at double figures on the season in the scoring column ... if your Miami Trace? 0-2 start ... LOTS of questions remain going into the first full week ... Coach Ackley is a good one! he'll get things going in the right direction for the Panthers ... MT is @ Chillicothe and @ McClain this coming week - we'll be watching these results closely ...

FT disparity tells the story.

It was an 18 point game after 3, that tells the story a heck of a lot more than the 16 free throws Unioto shot in the 4th

21 turnovers tells the story a lot more.
