BIGS Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line for 2024-25

Let's take a look at the BIGS we have in the SE District for 2024-25 ... I suppose we need to define BIGS, as you travel the SE District a BIG Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line can be anyone who is from 6-0 to 6-7'ish I suppose ... in SEO you will find players such as Kam Janes for Western Pike who stand at MAYBE 6-0 BUT if you watch the young man play the game in the paint at both ends of the floor he holds his own with his quickness off the floor/reaction time/hops to go with his tenaciousness on the boards ... take it to the opposite end and you have a player like 6-5 Hayden Wells or 6-3 Chase Lupardus both playing in the paint for Warren - both are post players, both with the physicality of what we envision as a BIG man (at least a BIG man in SEO) ... Sooooooooooo we have a large "pool" of players who fall between the size parameters for SEO ... I'm going to try to throwout MY names for big men in the middle/players in the post... I'm going to get the list started, I've got a list of maybe 25 players in the 6-3 to 6-8 range that I've thought of, I don't know everyone out there! I didn't see ALL teams ! this is an informational thread to get information OUT and have information come in ( I want to learn more names of players I should be watching this coming season all across SEO) :
Carson Davis 6-8, jr. Meigs ... inside, outside game, he's learning to be physical, offensively has the game to knockdown 3's, he "ain't" afraid to shoot the 3 ball, wants to shoot the 3 ball, BUT he has good footwork, good hands and the real size of a 6-8, sturdy frame to hang with anyone in the paint at both ends ...
Eli Roberts 6-7, sr. South Webster ... inside, outside game ... great length, quicks off the dribble to get to the rim ... can post up, does post up BUT prefers working the perimeter going outside in vs being in the post ... BUT I qualify that by saying that he hasn't HAD TO play in the paint for the Jeeps with the like of Tyler Sommer/Jack Timothy doing the board work in the paint at both ends for SW ... Roberts will BE the BIG for the Jeeps this coming season for SW as both Timothy & Sommer graduated ...
Bennett Kayser 6-5, sr. Minford ... inside/outside game ... length, hops, tenacity on the boards at both ends ... 20 ppg/10+ rbs per game - he's a nightly double double guy ... BK can be that perimeter threat as the Falcons have one of the best rebounding post players in SEO - Jackson Shoemaker 6-4, sr. , strong in the paint, holds his ground with anyone, clears out with anyone - scores around the rim from the blocks while being a threat to take his defender out beyond the arc as he WILL take the 3, WILL hit the 3 ... and usually it's of the back to back to back variety until the defender figures out that Shoemaker is comfortable out beyond the 3 point line ...
Adam Guthrie 6-7, jr. Miami Trace ... he's an immovable body in the paint, having that 6-7, thick, strong frame to go with his 6-7 length - makes him a force at both ends on the boards ...
Cade Mock 6-7, Gallia Academy ... has a big man attitude, does not back down , a 6-7 height and a long wingspan ... he has always reminded me of a player in the development phase in the mold of the graduated post player Trent Taylor for Warren ... same type of game, might be a little more athletic imo ... indications are that Cade has shown an improved 3 point game this past summer ... I like his game at both ends of the floor, if you are going to be a big, it helps to have that tenacious attitude of "if the ball goes up I'm going to be the guy who is bringing it down" ... CM has to control his play to the point of "staying on the court" - has to stay out of foul trouble - tough job as being THAT big, the guy with a nose for the ball - all attention - including officials' - are on him ... I still like his game, I see CM having a breakout year where he takes over a game/controls a game from inside the paint at both ends ...
Logan McIntosh 6-4, Fairfield Leesburg ...length, quickness, good passer of the rock ... quick off the floor ... gets to the rim, can shoot the 3 ball ... one of the best mid-size bigs in all of SEO ...
Junior Bass, 6-4, sr Belpre... good size for SEO, strong around the rim, in the paint at both ends of the floor ... excellent footwork , length/reach ... I first saw JB at Shawnee State vs South Webster - I was impressed with the young mans game - Bass will be a big part of Belpre success in 2024-25 ...
Keegan Arnett, 6-4 sr, Fairfield Union ... probably no big man in SEO works as hard as K. Arnett in the paint ... good size for SEO, doesn't have the length, but makes up for a lot in his floor presence, a good nose for the game, "WANTS" the ball in the paint at the offensive end, quick to the spots at the defensive end ... footwork, soft hands, good body control - keep an eye KA this season ...
KB Perkins, 6-4 sr, Unioto ... solid physical body in the paint, you aren't going to move him off his spot, good rebounding technique ... midrange jumper range, good on blocks ...
Hayden Wells 6-5 sr/ Chase Lupardus 6-3 sr , Warren ... both players are true in the paint, block to block at the offensive end players ... Wells has 6-5 height, 6-8 length to go with endless energy on both ends, works hard to get open down on the blocks, works just as hard for rebounds at both ends ... 3 years of varsity experience coming off the bench to give Trent Taylor a rest ... started varsity for 3-4+ games when Taylor was out 2yrs ago with an ankle injury ... starting won't be too big for HW ... AND he is a lefty ... Lupardus, started , has started for 2 years for Coach Maddox, strong/undersized heightwise big man ... I've always thought Chase had more in the tank offensively, he's shown the ability to go up against bigger post players, with his strength - he holds his own ... he's shown games where he is as good as any big offensively (ie vs Linsly at Linsly last year) ... strong on the boards Lupardus is one of the best in SEO ...
... I'm marking names off of my list of bigs ... but I'm going to stop ... give others a chance to contribute ... as I posted earlier - I'm interested in names of players I DON'T have on MY list ... names that are not on MY radar but will be players that can hold their own in the paint

Pfloyd, well done. You pretty much nailed it. The one name I feel like has to be mentioned here is Ashton Layne, 6-3 sophomore, Ironton. My only experiences watching Layne last year was Ironton’s sectional final win vs Chesapeake and their district semi-final loss vs North Adams. I firmly believe Ironton holds on and wins that game if it weren’t for Layne fouling out. He dominated the paint both offensively and on the boards against an undersized front court. I just couldn’t believe a player with his size, skillset, and touch was only a freshman.

... alright I'll add a few more ...
Noah Haithcock 6-5, jr. Washington CH ... varsity experience last season as a sophomore, obvious good size for SEO ... WCH also has a 2nd BIG in Gage Merritt 6-5 sr. ...
Gunnar Myers 6-4 & Sawyer Myers 6-5 Waverly ... both played varsity for the Tigers last season ... BOTH will be big reasons for a Waverly "solid" season on the hardwood in 24-25 ...
Ed Kirk 6-5, jr. Circleville ... Ed Kirk, starter as a soph last season alongside Slater Search/Briley Cramer for the Tigers ... this season - Kirk & fellow junior 6-4 Riley Jenkins will be the bigs in Round Town ...
Sam Rupe 6-7 jr , New Lexington ...
Luke Stine 6-4 sr, Portsmouth ... Stine came off the bench for the Trojans last season at the varsity level ... showed well on the boards for Coach Lisath ... will share duties with Olynshay McKinley 6-4 jr. ...
... others ???

Bo Henry, a 6’6 junior at Piketon. With the Red Streaks losing 3 starters from last season, he will have to carry an even bigger load than he did last season.

I think Lupardus has the potential to have a big year, he will certainly get the opportunity after the graduation of Taylor. Lupardus was recently selected to participate in the Eastern Boys Camp All-Star team in Las Vegas, where he will join a distinguished group of athletes from Warren. Prior participants include Trent Taylor, Austin Cunningham, and Evan French.

Jake Skeens, 6-6 Chesapeake returns as the sr BIG MAN for the Panthers ... boards, sees the floor, a big part of the peake inside out passing game ... was reported to have had a good summer season for Coach Ater's Panthers ...
Logan Wolfenbarker ... 6-4 jr Portsmouth West ... size wise LW will play at least some with his back to the basket, but he has the skill set to score from anywhere on the court ... a lot to like with Wolfenbarker in a Senators uni ...
Xander Lake ... 6-4 or 5 so. Hillsboro move in from East Clinton, Lake is solid, good hands, floor vision, passer of the ball, excellent footwork on the blocks, scores the midrange jumper ... great addition to the 'boro's already talented ballclub ...
Owen Tracy 6-4+ so. Meigs / Dustin Vance 6-4+ sr. Meigs/ Reed Brinager 6-5 soph Meigs All of these players are outstanding on the boards .. are long, are double double players for a stacked talent/length/scoring wise Meigs Marauders squad...
Izaak Cox 6-5 sr & Logan Fradd 6-5 so. & Lucas Cremeans 6-3 sr Rock Hill ... the Redmen have the potential to be solid in 2024-25 ... starting with the size they have coming back ... 6-5 twin towers with another good size youngster in 6-3 so Aaron Workman gives them a chance to be strong on the defensive boards, while being able to get inside offensively/ or go inside out depending on the perimeter scoring for the Redmen ...
Tweeners size wise, but hard-nosed rebounders, post players:
Stephen Jenkins ... 6-2 jr. Jackson ... crashes the boards, knows the game, is in position to attack the boards at both ends AND scores the ball both in the paint/on the blocks and can shoot the 3 ball ...
Kam Janes 6-1, sr Western Pike ... Kam is one of those players that you wish was 6-4 - outstanding rebounder in traffic at 6-1 - quick of the floor, quicker to the spot & ball ... good hops ... lefthander that scores off of the offensive boards as well getting to the rim offensively & finishes ... KJ has the shot to be an excellent perimeter scorer ... going to be tougher with the transfer of long time running mate Drew Haggy to Minford ... KJ as good as he is was comfortable being the #2 guy, hesitated to be THAT guy, BUT the young man has the game to be THAT guy ... his role for the Indians is now forcing KJ to BE that guy ...
Landon McGraw 6-2 jr. Wheelersburg ... Landon has you would expect being a "tweener" at 6-2, has an all around game - shoots the ball at all 3 levels, rebounds in a crowd, great feel for where to be on the floor to get the boards, strong on the offensive boards with the putback bucket/being a lefty is a plus ... just as all of our talented tweeners are - he sees the floor, finds the open man on the perimeter for the burg ...
Kalvin Manson 6-3 Huntington Ross ... Manson is a force on the boards, solid pick & roll type of player ... strong build ... good footwork ... inside/block to block scorer... we will be keeping an eye on this junior post player in 2024-25 ...
Landon Robinson 6-2 sr & Noah Huston 6-3 sr Zane Trace ... the inside/perimeter games of these solid rebounders & offensive threats mesh with the perimeter scoring of guards Landen Jarrell/ Ezra Rippeth ... ZT is the odds on favorites in the SVC in 24-25 largely on the shoulders of length of Huston/the strength in the paint of Robinson ... all giving the Pioneers of Coach Cassidy experience and weapons at all positions ...

... I've felt that way for a couple of years about Lupardus, I THINK his role was 1st as a rebounder on both ends - very effective imo, defend the paint - as good of a help side defender in SEO ... imo, he will NOW have an expanded role - he didn't have to be a scorer with Taylor on the floor ... did he score? absolutely - a lot of his points were off of offensive boards , he wasn't the first option offensively in the paint ... in 2024-25 I feel he will have to be a scorer in the paint ... even though the Warriors only lost 1 player from this past years team - Trent Taylor 6-7, he was one of the big 2 for WHS, 16-18 ppg, near double digit rebounds per game ... the Lupardus/Wells combo has to be not only rebounders & "garbage" scorers - they will need to add the "offensive go to " role to their skill set - that will take some adjustment to their mindsets ... I hope Lupardus going to Vegas allows Chase to find out he has the game (which he does) to be an offensive threat/go to guy in the Warren offensive attack ... he needs to be a midrange jumper threat imo, his offensive game for 3 years has been "block to block" range ... defenders did not guard him on the perimeter - add the elbow, foul line extended jumper to his game? - if he can draw the defender out 15 ft. he has the ability to take the defender off the dribble through shear strength ... it will be fun to see the WHS offensive attack in 24-25 ...

From the SHAC 3 come to mind, 2 that are not really “Bigs” but are good height and valuable to their teams, 1 that has size that will be interesting to see how they develop under a new coach. All 3 players will be juniors this year.
Denver Clinton 6’2-6’3 Lynchburg- Clay. Averaged 17.7 ppg last year as a Sophomore.
Grady Barber 6’2- 6’3 or taller from Eastern Brown. Big sized body but with tremendous guard skills. He averaged 13 last year and expected him to be even better his junior year.
Brody Feldhaus Fayetteville Perry listed at 6’8. With coach Joe B Stewart at the helm, I’d imagine Brody will develop. He will be the biggest player in the SHAC by far that I know of. He averaged 6.4 for the rockets last year.

Logan Tweener Post/In the Paint ....
Owen Bell 6-3 jr. Logan ... Owen Bell has been a varsity starter for the Chieftains his first 2 seasons ... knee surgery limited his playing time both seasons ... I like the play of Blake Chambers sr. 6-3 ... length, shoots the ball well, quick to the ball ... Bryce Blair jr 6-2 ... shows good perimeter scoring, good length ... Carson Tootle 6-4 soph ... size to hold his own in the paint, needs varsity time to feel the varsity game , athletic (QB1 on football team) ... the Logan size works well Below the Lancaster-Dixon Line BUT the Chiefs have their 1st season in the OCC with an OCC schedule - the OCC mold is 6-6+ in the paint, a linebacker like power foward 6-3 to 6-5, a 6-5 stretch forward with length & hops, a 3 point shooter on the perimeter to go with a sg/pg to run the show ... we'll see how the youngsters for Logan do in the OCC and with the SEO schedule they will come up with to fill out their schedule ...

Braiden Plaugher 6-4 jr Marietta ... played mostly JV last season, got minutes in the cleanup role behind the outstanding 6-8 Alex Kendall, University of Findlay commit ... will be asked to be THE man in the middle in 2024-25 down on the blocks with Seth Britton/Zaiden Wittekind/Brayden Jones/Trey Hawkins/Owen Riley (all getting varsity minutes last season) ...

Thank you for mentioning Kalvin. Great kid! Is a beast on the glass and has gotten stronger. His touch around the rim needs to improve, but he could easily average a double double this year. When teams don't have great success, kids can get lost in the overall team record and not get recognized. One of these nights you will read he had a 20 rebound game and you can brag about bringing his name up in the summer.
Thanks again.

Meigs & Dustin Vance 6-4+ sr. Meigs BOTH of these players are outstanding on the boards ..both are long, both are double double players for a stacked talent wise/length/scoring ...
Izaak Cox 6-5 sr & Logan Fradd 6-5 so. & Lucas Cremeans 6-3 sr Rock Hill ... the Redmen have the potential to be solid in 2024-25 ... starting with the size they have coming back ... 6-5 twin towers with another good size youngster in
6-3 so Aaron Workman gives them a chance to be strong on the defensive boards, while being able to get inside offensively/ or go inside out depending on the perimeter scoring for the Redmen ...
Thanks again.
soggybottomtopper! no problem!
Kalvin Manson caught my eye his freshmen season! - I'll need to go back , and look at the napkin stat sheets for the 2 games I watched him his freshmen year - one was an excellent offensive game as well might have been a 20 pt game for him IF I remember correctly - I'll check ... anyway, he's as strong as they come in the paint on the boards ... I will definitely keep an eye on his stat lines this coming season, as I EXPECT some double double games from the young man ...
