Lucasville Valley 58 a final
Lucasville Valley on the road at the Oven in Piketon Saturday night, the Indians of Valley is one of those teams in the preseason rankings "where Pfloyd was wrong" ... I have watched Valley in a number of scrimmages in the preseason - they are young starting only 1 senior in Chase Davis, the rest of the lineup is made up of underclassmen - 2 juniors (6-2 Christian Copen/PG Jaylen Bender) and 2 sophs (Jalen Dunham/Blake Lundy) , off the bench 6-2 soph Jaxsyn Bender & 5-11 Braxton Conaway ... 7 deep for Coach Tackett .. tonight vs the Red Streaks of Piketon the Indians had all 7 in the rotation dent the napkin stat sheet ... team scoring, TEAM quickness on the defensive side - mixing up on ball pressure with 3/4 court pressure/1/2 court pressure/ man to man & a trapping zone ... throw in PG Jaylen Bender who set the tempo offensively for Valley - I had on my napkin stat sheet "patience" on offense - working the ball (under control tempo) ... pushed the ball when the opportunity was there (7 fgs in transition) ... opened the game shooting the 3 - going 1/6 in the 1st & 1 for 5 in the second - this kept Piketon close on the scoreboard as Valley led 13-12 after 1 and 28-22 at intermission ... excellent adjustments opening the 3rd qtr. as the Indians only took 1 trey - looking inside the paint - when the Indians attacked the rim in the 3rd - 5 of 6 fgs in the 3rd period were in the paint with the 6th fg being a pull-up midrange jumper by Jalen Dunham ... just as in the opening 2 qtrs Valley spread the wealth with 4 players getting on the board in the 3rd - Chase Davis 2pts/Dunham 2 pts/ Christian Copen 4pts/ Blake Lundy 5 pts ... for Piketon the big man in the paint 6-6 Bo Henry added 4 pts on the blocks in the 3rd to go with his 11 points in the first 2 qtrs ... 15 pts in 3 qtrs for Henry which ended up his total for the game ... a good defensive effort by Lucasville as Henry dropped 27 points vs Ross County Christian at the Zane Trace classic on Friday ... Valley 41 Piketon 30 after 3 ... Piketon got 8 pts from Treven Shanks in the 4th but only got 2 points from the rest of the team (2 FTs from Jace Ritchie) ... the Indians continued to control the game with tempo/defensive pressure and attacking the rim - going to the line early in the 4th 3/4 FT's ... Dunham adding 4pts/Copen 4pts/Conaway 2 pts/ Jaylen Bender 2 pts and 2 pts by #5 ... defense/attacking the rim - 7 fgs in the paint in the final qtr. ... Valley is a team where anyone who steps on the floor can score ...when they are allowed to dictate the tempo of the game through their D - they have a chance to beat anyone on their schedule ... Valley 58 Piketon 40 a final ...
