I looked at my napkin stat sheet, HHS was 0 for 8 from the line at this point, I said to myself - self, if they had gone 8/8 from the line they'd be IN the game - down 4 ... but apparently I was thinking too loud as the Eagles, in particular Tucker Leist decided to remove all doubt ... Game 2 on the night :
Western Pike 66
Piketon 46 a final
... the final score was a 20 point margin of victory for the Indians of Coach Williams , the Piketon Redstreaks pulled within 14 pts in the final period as Western had emptied the bench with 13 players seeing the floor ... WHS played 9 players in it's NORMAL rotation throughout the game ... I'm a defense kind of guy, I LIKE fundamentally sound, physical , in your face for 32 minutes the full length of the court, I LIKE teams that are taught how to "beat the opposing player to the spot", to redirect offensive players with the body ... I was smiling the entire 32 minutes of this one watching Coach Williams TRIBE totally control the game with their defensive pressure on the ball ... the Western D turned Piketon over 24 times in the game, the Western D took turnovers the other way for 8 fgs/16 points in the transition game, I saw the Western D hold one of the best big men (6-7) in Southern/Southeast Ohio hoops to 0 pts, under 5 rbs FOR THE GAME ... a 9 man rotation, no drop off in defensive pressure or defensive fundamentals by any one of the players coming on the floor - Tyler Kerns, Samuele Cattaneo, Drew Haggy, Landan Owens, Kam Janes, Alex Siliven, Cutter Clay, Foster Davis, Ayden Riggs - outstanding ... all of the cliche's apply "defense travels" , "defense wins championships" ... Was really hoping Piketon could play with Western but they could not match their physicality or grit! Western plays very hard and attacks the rim. I was pretty surprised with some of their role players. Piketon seems to take a step forward then three steps back, also number 4 got some good learning minutes for Piketon. I feel like he is the key for them to be a competitive team due to them not having any size after Henry. Would like to see piketon get more physical and crash the boards, they settle for one shot because they don’t crash the boards!

Didn’t stick around for this game but I was very surprised on how Western held Henry scoreless. Especially since they don’t have a guy over 6’0. That says a lot about how hard they play on defensive end.
