Saving Trimble

Hearing whispers of Hosey coming back to save them from disaster? Not just the basketball team, but the whole school. It seems that the leaders of the district were spending money like they had some and now they’re just hoping to keep the doors open. Do any of you think Hosey will come back to save what could be their last season? Thoughts?

Howie’s way to busy helping a family member win to care about what’s going on in Gloucester.

Well, we just have to disagree. I'd say a school district with a current carry-over fund balance of $4.2 million in 2025 that rises to $5.3 million in 2028 is in pretty solid shape. The net balance is 36% of expenditures.

“This resolution is to advise the Director of the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce and the Auditor of State that the Trimble Local School District Board of Education and district administration cannot formulate an acceptable Fiscal Caution Financial Recovery Plan to address the district’s projected current fiscal year deficit of -$1,620,794 and that, as of this Dec. 12, 2024 board meeting date, the district has over $1.5 million in past due bills and current cash flow projections (attached) indicate the district may default on payroll, and basic utilities within the next few months. Accordingly, the Trimble Local School’s Board of Education requests the state immediately put Trimble Local School District into Fiscal Emergency so solvency assistance can be obtained to pay past due bills, personnel, and maintain operations through the fiscal year-end. The board further directs Treasurer Miller to provide certified copies of this resolution to the Department of Education and Workforce and the Auditor of State for action.”

Shocking what I saw tonight on the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce website. One year ago Trimble assembled and reported a Five Year Forecast document that showed a $5.3 million carryover into FY 2028. And the new updated forecast (submitted 11/22/2024) shows a significant deficit. Unreal. Not sure what could have caused that. Never seen those kind of numbers before.

Not at all. Didn't happen. I have no idea where $4.5 million went in the last 12 months. Do you? Were they wrong then, or wrong now? Has there been a public explanation as to how something this dramatic (all of it reported by Trimble officials) could have ocurred?

I'm saying in reviewing the budgets with revenue projections and expenditures (Trimble's own reports) does not explain the one-year significant change in revenue projections and anticipated expenditures. It is not totally discernable if budgeting Federal ESSR funds and other COVID 19-related grants could have caused this, but I've not seen anything like this in terms of public reporting. The facts I know are what Trimble has publicly reported to the state of Ohio. If you know something else have at it.

See your first and second comments on this thread. You argued without having the facts. Hence, open mouth, insert foot.

I'm not ready to concede the budget numbers. If the current numbers are as they say it is today, there is a TON of explaining to do -- going from $5.3 million balances to deficits in 12 months. Can you explain that?

Any news on whether Hosey is going to go back for possibly Trimble’s last season? I heard rumors about him helping at Southern too but not confirmed. Also is it set in stone that the state is going to force Trimble to consolidate due to the money issues they’re having?

Is Trimble close to closing down? That’s what I’m hearing. Anyone know anything about this? If so, where will most of their athletes go? Nelsonville? Athens? Federal Hocking? Miller? Or one of the Catholic/private schools? Which dioceses are they in? Which school will be the biggest beneficiary?

Word on the street here in town is that them weecats will be wearing Orange and Brown next season. That should help us make a run deep into the playoffs.
