Northwest 32 a final
... If I had to describe Coach McKinniss' Oaks the words patient, disciplined come to mind ... 8 men in the rotation, 4 of 5 starters are seniors so they have been there, seen that and know what the expectations are from the sideline/court side ... after watching the Oaks I would add that there are no what I would call "super stars" ... no flash, but definitely TEAM - players who know their roles/play within those roles ... a deliberate motion offense, where the goal is getting shots at the rim ... the Oaks do a nice job of controlling the tempo of the game ... solid man to man at the defensive end ... one of the "little things" that I noticed - and it's just a thing that I have when I watch teams - I look for fundamentals - the Oaks KNOW how to throw a "chest pass" , none of the "pushing the ball to the other player" with one hand behind the ball, but true 2 handed chest passes ... winning napkin stats in the game for OHHS - turned the Mohawks over 18 times to only 7 on their own ball ... the Oaks scored 36 points at the rim/in the paint on the night vs NHS converting 7 fgs down low in the paint at their end of the court ... the Oaks converted 5 of the 18 turnovers for the Mohawks into points in transition ... in the end, the Oaks controlled the tempo, the pace of the game, held Northwest to 2 fgs in the 4th quarter ... discipline, patience, play your roles ...
