Re: Marietta 64 John Glenn 63 a final (Napkin Stats)
... excellent basketball game between a couple of very good teams ... both turned their opponent over 18 times in the game ... the Tigers of Coach Gardner jumped out to a BIG early first quarter lead ... I had them on top of John Glenn 17-4 with 2:01 to play in the 1st quarter ... Zaiden Wittekind, 6-3 jr. swing foward and running mate on the opposite side jr. 6-4 Owen Riley led the surge as the duo accounted for 13 of the Marietta 19 first frame scoring total ... Wittekind draining a trey to open the scoring in the period and three ball to end it to go with 2/2 from the FT line ... Riley added a transition bucket 2pts and a triple on his own ball for a 5pt total in the qtr ... Marietta 19 John Glenn 12 after 1 ... JG was the chaser the entire game, as the Tigers maintained their 6-7 point lead through most of the game leading at the quarter breaks 19-12 after 1, 38-32 at the half, 53-46 after 3 ... the Little Muskies of John Glenn battled back in the 4th led by Stehl Bates, 6-0 jr., getting 7pts in the period ... the Tigers were put on the line in the 4th-where they have struggled in key moments this season - vs JG the tigers went 0-4 in the waning moments of the game as the Muskies tied and took the lead on 2/2 FT shooting by 6-0 jr. Cj Dolan with :24.1 seconds to play in the game 63-62 John Glenn ... the Tigers missed a shot at the rim, with :07.2 on the clock ... rebound off of JG, out of bounds... inbounds on the baseline was tipped out of bounds by the Muskies ... :06.9 on the clock ... inbounds pass ... a 2nd pass to Braydon Jones who took 3 dribbles toward the paint inside the free throw line .. sinking an 8-10 footer as the buzzer sounded ... Marietta 64 John Glenn 63 after 4 quarters ...
Re: Marietta 64 John Glenn 63 a final (Napkin Stats)
... a lot of questions answered imo concerning how the Tigers would look without 6-4 senior Junior Bass not in the lineup ... home game, vs an outstanding team in John Glenn from the East district - the new look Tigers were just fine ... Marietta used a 9 man rotation ... played uptempo when the situations presented themselves, played a great halfcourt game offensively getting excellent shooting from beyond the three point line going 7/15 from three, Braiden Plaugher , 6-4 jr. forward burned the Muskies from deep with 3 for 3 shooting from downtown including back to back 3's in the 2nd quarter ... I would not be surprised if the Tigers take down East district foe #2 - Monroe Central 12-2, Tuesday night at Sutton Gymnasium ...
Re: Marietta 64 John Glenn 63 a final (Napkin Stats)
That Central game tonight should be a good one, if Warren/Belpre wasn't on the docket I'd be headed over.

Re: Marietta 64 John Glenn 63 a final (Napkin Stats)
Marietta likely to have a tough time with Monroe Central. I've seen them enough to know they are athletic and balanced -- hard to defend a team with no weaknesses. Beat Warren by 11. We'll see.

I agree, it should be a great game. One may give a slight edge to Marietta with it being at their place, but I believe Monroe Central will take the W in this one. Not too many teams play the high intensity defense they way they do.Hookshot wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 11:23 am Marietta likely to have a tough time with Monroe Central. I dont believe Monroe Central can handle the full court press well. But we will see

Agree it will be a good game. But I would not say Monroe doesn’t have a weakness. They can struggle against pressure. Especially when the ball is not in Howells handsHookshot wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 11:23 am Marietta likely to have a tough time with Monroe Central. No weaknesses is quite a statement considering they don't have a true point guard.Hookshot wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 11:23 am Marietta likely to have a tough time with Monroe Central. I've seen them three times, and I've not seen an exploitable weakness. Monroe Central sure handled Warren. If Marietta is healthy enough they can win, but it will be a challenge.allOhiotraveler wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 6:25 pmNo weaknesses is quite a statement considering they don't have a true point guard.Hookshot wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 11:23 am Marietta likely to have a tough time with Monroe Central. Don't get me wrong. I think MC is a very very talented team. They have stacked very great wins against Warren and Marietta, who I believe are very good teams in higher divisions. But just take the 3rd quarter of the Marietta game as maybe a slight weakness in terms of pressure. If MC wasn't in a district with Hiland, they would be a shoo in regional final team IMOHookshot wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 6:44 pmI've seen them three times, and I've not seen an exploitable weakness. I know they lost to two good teams - what was different about how those games played out? Or, how did those teams handle MC?Hookshot wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 6:44 pmI've seen them three times, and I've not seen an exploitable weakness. Monroe Central sure handled Warren. Monroe Central beat two teams (Warren and Marietta) and lost to two teams not as good as those two. Each game is its own experience.enigmaax wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 1:31 pmI know they lost to two good teams - what was different about how those games played out? I’m just looking to hear how the teams that beat MC were able to do it. Off shooting night, turnovers, beat in the paint?Hookshot wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 6:39 pmMonroe Central beat two teams (Warren and Marietta) and lost to two teams not as good as those two. Re: Marietta 64 John Glenn 63 a final (Napkin Stats)
Wheeling Central has a very nice player in Eli Sancomb who got a couple of the Noles starters in foul trouble early. They had no answer for him defensively and he tore them up driving to the basket finishing with close to 40 points I believe. They changed up the defensive game plan on him the next game and ended up winning by 15 or so.enigmaax wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 6:41 pmI’m just looking to hear how the teams that beat MC were able to do it. The Fairbanks game they were up by 17 at one point in the 2nd half. Several turnovers coupled with what seemed like Fairbanks sinking 4-5 three pointers on consecutive possessions allowed them back in the game and to ultimately win on three at the buzzer.
Re: Marietta 64 John Glenn 63 a final (Napkin Stats)
I think when I did my writeup of the Monroe win over Warren in December I may have said that it was the worst game I have seen a Warren team play in years, they were unrecognizable - just going through the motions in that game ... Stadelman scored 25 points the entire rest of the team scored 23 ... the #2, #3 scorers for Warren had 5 points and 0 points ... it was 1 vs 8 ... and yet it was a 3 point game for the majority of the game ... #20 off the bench for MC - Fogle in the scouting report - " a streaky shooter" ... scored 14 points in the 4th quarter, hit 4 straigt 3's literally unguarded from the left corner ... Warren losses by 11 ... Warren is playing as now the best version of themselves offensively and defensively ... MC won the game at Marietta College , definitely the better team that day ... #22 Tucker Howell might be one the best 6-2, think, strong players in the East/Southeast area - he's good one ... the Warren coaches to a coach will tell he's "darn good" ... quality TEAM ... pressure defense is definitely the way to go vs MC ... Warren on a 'bad" day all around turned MC over 18 times - which kept Warren at that 3pt deficit for the majority of the game - kept Warren in it ... they had 7 scorers that day vs Warren, 3 in double figures ... #20 Fogle - not a point until he "became streaky" and dropped the 4 treys and 14 points on Warren in about a 6 minute span ... different divisions Warren D3 ... MC D6 ... still a rematch would be fun to watch ...
Re: Marietta 64 John Glenn 63 a final (Napkin Stats)
Boo . MC only wins because Warren played their worst game in years? Stay classy y’all. And don’t play your worst game in years.watch video and don’t take MC for granted then.
Warren is a great program in our area that I’ve grown to respect. MC is trying to get to the same place. Good luck Warriors going forward.
And yes we have many weaknesses. Pressure defense is one of them. It will probably trip them up at some point in the tournament.

... no excuse - you have to play the game, vs MC Warren didn't bring "any" game ... it was a wakeup call to the senior laden team that you can't go thru the motions and expect to play the best teams and get W's ... a loss is a loss, a win is a win ... you don't show up to play -especially vs quality teams - you lose ...selonmc wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2025 12:58 am Boo .
